1. idmmc8 Takes Place as Live Event in Munich on 4. October 2021 !

In our last drymix.info Newsletter we asked for your opinion, the results of this brief survey were encouraging: over 70% of the participants (total: 59) wanted to have a live (in-person) event in Germany, Munich to be precise, preferably not in September. So our decision was easy: The 8th International Drymix Mortar Conference idmmc8 takes place physically in Munich on 4. October 2021! Plus: we have found a splendid location which even excels over Ofenwerk in Nürnberg: we will host idmmc8 at the former Katzenberger precast concrete plant. Post-industrial flair in an 18 m high hall in Munich-Obersendling. These premises are spacious enough (2.400 sq. m.) to keep distance, almost like outside. We have added some fotos to our website, I am sure you will like it. There will be our traditional casual Delegate Welcome on Sunday, 3. October 2021 in the famous Nockherberg Beer Garden (or inside if it rains). We are looking for sponsors here.

We have a wonderful program and full support by Baumit, Blackburn Chemicals, BYK, Caltra, Calucem, Dow, Ecocem, Evonik, Haver&Boecker, Imerys, Omya, Organik Kimya, Pagel Spezialbeton, Schleibinger TUM and Wacker Chemie. With your attendance idmmc8 will be a truly international event where you can meet and network extensively (our program provides gives ample time for this!). Our Technical Chairman is again Prof. Dr. Johann Plank of Technische Universität München, Germany (TUM). Here is our preliminary program (subject to change without notice):

Blackburn | Dr. Phil Cooper | The Latest Developments in Foam Control Agents and Shrinkage Reducing Agents for the Construction Industry
Caltra | Ludo van Nes Blessing | Amorphous Calcium Aluminate Cement - Highly Reactive C12A7 Aluminum Cement
Ecocem | tbd. | Ecocem: Low Carbon Hydraulic Binder Technology for Industrial Mortars
Omya | David Golzalez Amago | Benefits of Using Lightweight Fillers in Dry Mix Applications
Polyplast | Artem Agashin | Polyplast. New horizons.
Baumit 3 D | Eduard Artner | (working title) BauMinator - Modular 2D Printing of Complex Shapes
Calucem | Alexandra Gerz | Calcium Aluminate Cements for Modern Building Products – Phase Evolution and Hydration
Imerys | Dr. Alexandre Francschini | U-Technology - Opening the Way to Inner Drymix Formulation Design
Mapei | Dr. Stefano Carrà | The Relationship between Entropy and Elastic Modulus in a Cement Based Paste
Organik Kimya | Yeşim İnan | The Design of A Re-dispersible Powder Polymer for Improved Adhesion Performance After Water Immersion
Pagel Spezialbeton | Dr-Ing. Patrick Schäffel | Rapid-Set Mortar with Resistance to Alkali-Silica Reactions
Technische Universität München TUM | Prof. Dr. Johann Plank | Chemical Admixtures Used in Digital Manufacturing (3D Printing) of Building Materials
Wacker Chemie | Dr. Ingo Müller | Mathematical Analysis of Ultrasonic Velocity-Time Curves

If you are sure you are coming, please get your ticket now and give us an encouragement this way: Admission to idmmc8 is 550 Euro, reduced to 420 Euro for drymix.info, SEADMA and MEDMA members. 3. Sakret Baltic Enters into Research Cooperation for 3D Printing Mortars with RTU

Sakret Baltics (Sakret Ltd.) has recently joined hands with Riga Technical University (RTU), both Riga, Latvia to develop a 3D printing Mortar. Application technologists of Sakret will formulate this mortar and RTU will make pilot runs on their proprietary 3D printer developed in-house. Scientists of RTU have already used Sakret mortars for their initial trials. It is their task to determine how printer parameters affect properties of material, how high objects can be printed and how to create free-form elements. The technical cooperation also wants to gather knowhow and experience in 3D Mortar printing, a segment, which Sakret identified as a growth opportunity in the Baltic Nations and beyond, especially in Western Europe. Another focus lays on the establishing of standards for 3D Mortar Printing technology, also the replacement of parts of the Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) by industrial waste materials such as burn shale ash, cogeneration plant ash in order to reduce CO2 emissions.

4. Saint Gobain Acquires Duraziv (Romania)

Saint Gobain SA, Paris, France has made an offer to acquire the Romanian drymix mortar manufacturer Duraziv S.R.L, Bukarest. Duraziv specializes in masonry mortars, screeds, renders, cementitious tile adhesives and grouts and also offers its own External Thermal Insulation and Finishing System (EIFS). A line of decorative products complete the portfolio of Duraziv. The deal is still subject to regulatory approvals. A transaction value was not published by either party.
