1. General Safety Concept for Lecturers and Delegates for Live Events by drymix.info

From September onwards, drymix.info will try to organize live (in-person) events again. We have the feeling that the community is ready and longing for it. In order to assure the safety and well-being of all delegates, sponsor personnel and lecturers we will adhere to a strict hygiene policy. All our registered delegates must be either
FULLY VACCINATED against CoVid-19 and provide proof of such vaccination or
RECOVERED from CoVid-19 during the last six month (again: proof required).
Alternatively, we will provide a controlled area, where you can test yourself and prove you are Covid-19 negative.

2. “To idmmc or not to be...?” Participate in our Survey on idmmc8 as Live Event now

“...that is the question here.”, concludes Hamlet in Shakespeare's play. European Coatings Show (ECS) has been cancelled yesterday (see below). What implications has this fact for The 8th International Drymix Mortar Conference idmmc8 scheduled right before ECS??

We can not (and do not want to) answer this question here in Munich alone. There are reasons why we should maintain the event in September and also some speaking against this. Therefore, we have put together a short survey, so you can give us your input. We need to understand your reasoning behind coming (or not) and to adapt the event to the format most of you prefer.

It is fun and does not take long (two to three minutes), so please give us your opinion by completing our survey online:

Your feedback is highly appreciated and will help us make this important decision.

3. European Coatings Show Cancelled in 2021, next ECS in March 2023

Vincentz Network GmbH & Co. KG, Hannover and NürnbergMesse GmbH, both Germany, the organizers of European Coatings Show (ECS) have regretfully announced yesterday that they will cancel ECS 2021. Although the legal requirements for large in-person events had been loosened in Germany and in Bavaria (we reported earlier) and the CoVid-19 infection numbers have decreased all across Europe, the organizers fear that international travel will not resume fast enough to yield a truly comprehensive and international event this year.

The next European Coatings Show will take place on 28. to 30. March 2023. The accompanying European Coatings Conference will still take place form on 13. to 14. September 2021, however as a virtual (online) event. Here, Ferdinand Leopolder of drymix.info hosts the Construction Chemicals Session as Technical Chairman together with Prof. Dr. Andreas Gerdes of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT.

4. MC-Bauchemie Opens New Subsidiary in The Philippines

MC-Bauchemie Müller GmbH & Co. KG, Bottrop, Germany has recently opened up its subsidiary in the Philippines after having obtained all legally required approvals from the local authorities. The wholly-owned subsidiary will act as a sales operation in the beginning, MC-Bauchemie plans on establishing production facilities "mid-term" there. The company's General Manager is Shirley Laurel. MC-Bauchemie has been active in the Asian market for over 35 years and operates own companies e.g. in India, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan. “Our long-term strategic goal in Southeast Asia is to become one of the market leaders in the field of construction chemical products and thus to also contribute to the growth of MC-Bauchemie worldwide,” says Lothar Hellenkamp, Regional Manager of MC-Bauchemie.

5. Sakret Europe Successfully Averted Cartel Office Ordinance

Sakret Trockenbaustoffe Europa GmbH & Co. KG, Berlin, Germany, had been issued with an ordinance from the German Federal Cartel Office, Bonn, in September 2019. This ordinance classified parts of the sales system of Sakret Europe as illegitimate and in conflict with anti-trust regulations. Sakret Europe licenses the Sakret brand and drymix mortar technology to regionally independent and individually competing licensees all across Europe, the ordinance asked for a termination or a rectification of this system. Sakret Europe immediately disputed this ordinance and now reports success: in an oral hearing, the judges at the Regional Appeal Court (Oberlandesgericht) Düsseldorf openly criticized the ordinance and especially saw no unfair competition or anti-trust offenses such as price fixing. This led the Federal Cartel Office to withdraw the ordinance and to declare it null and void.

The Sakrete brand (the one with the "e" in the end) was developed in Atlanta, Georgia, USA back in 1936 by Arthur C. Avril and soon transformed into a regional licensing system for drymix mortar technology. Today, Sakrete (US) with its licensing activities is part of to Oldcastle APG, Atlanta, GA. The Sakret brand has been established by Sakret Berlin in Europe since over 50 years. Its independent partners operate 13 drymix mortar plants in Germany (5 licensees) and 25 plants in other European Nations.

6. After Years of Stagnation, Drymix Growth in Germany is over 4,5%

According to a report issued by Verband für Dämmsysteme, Putz und Mörtel e.V., Berlin (Union of German EIFS, Render and Masonry Producers VDPM) and B+L Marktdaten GmbH, Bonn, both Germany, the sales of volume drymix mortars and for thermal insulation systems has reached a plus of 4,5% in 2020 (8.526 t in absolute numbers). The years 2016 to 2019 showed a certain stagnation at growth rates clearly below 1% per year. The growth has been attributed to the fact that construction work picked up after the first lockdown, old projects were completed and especially residential construction went up by 4,6% (306.000 units completed in 2020). With people skipping vacation and being home so often, renovation and refurbishment ("home improvement") flourished: e.g. cementitious tile adhesives grew by 5,7%; basic "outdoor" mortars and dry concrete for gardening, patios and landscaping picked up by 9,7%. Quoting Dr. Hans-Joachim Riechers, CEO of VDPM: "The development of output (in the drymix mortar industry) has superseded all expectations in 2020." The positive trend in residential construction is expected to continue into 2021 and further, also thermal insulation projects will continue to grow.
