1. Casual drymix.info Evening on BAUMA Next Week: Register in Advance

It has become a nice tradition, that drymix.info arranges a casual evening for tired international guests and showgoers during BAUMA. This time (like in 2016), Haver&Boecker invites us to their booth at BAUMA in Hall B, Stand B2.149 on Thursday 11. April 2019, 18:00. The band playing is HotSaxClub.

2. MEDMA and SEADMA EC Meetings: New Events in UAE, Oman, Egypt, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA e.V. and the South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA Ltd. Recently held their respective Executive Committee (EC) Meetings. Here is a short summary of those meetings and an outlook on events to come:

The MEDMA EC was extremely pleased with MEDMA's Workhop series, especially the most recent one at Dubai Central Labs on EIFS. With this new format MEDMA succeeded to reach consultants, developers and contractors with technical drymix mortar topics. The fourth workshop (on Concrete Repair) will take place on 14. July 2019 in Dubai (exact location to be determined later). For its members, MEDMA will arrange for the MEDMA Drymix Mortar Showcase at Infra Oman, Muscat on 7. October 2019. This event is being hosted and promoted by Al Nimr Group, the organizers of Infra Oman. Members of MEDMA are encouraged to propose lectures and sponsoring to Leo soon.

The 5th MEDMA Workshop on Automation at the Jobsite (machine and silo logistics) will take place on 24. November 2019 at Sharjah Expo Center (parallel to ICCX Show there) – followed by MEDMA e.V.'s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Our new member Arkan Drymix as well as Conmix have already announced their support and we hope for other support to follow. The MEDMA EC has also decided to offer schedule a drymix mortar meeting in Egypt in the first half of 2020.

The SEADMA EC has reviewed its successful events in Bangkok last November as well as the formation of PPM (Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association) quite positively. For the future a series of measures was decided upon. The new Memory of understanding with the Thai Drymix Mortar Subgroup under the Thai Concrete Association was discussed and passed, signing is expected to take place soon. For over-regional education, SEADMA is developing into a Knowledge Ressource Center, with a Syllabus based on the need of its local chapters in Thailand, The Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. SEADMA acts as a service hub for the local chapters when it comes to specialized education and training offers.

On 24. July 2019, SEADMA invites to a meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam with the drymix mortar industry there, similar to our event in HCMC last year. The meeting will focus on New Applications of Drymix Mortar.

And of course SEADMA is already accepting topics for lecturing at its 14th Annual Conference in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Vietnam on 28. November 2019. In March 2020, the Fourth Philippine Drymix Mortar Meeting is being planned with PhilDMMA.

3. The 6th India Drymix Mortar Conference, Mumbai, 9.May 2019: Register now!

The 6th India Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase taking place on Thursday, 9. May 2019 at the splendid ITC Maratha Hotel near Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The Construction Chemical Manufacturer's Association of India (CCMAI) and its members are again supporting this event. Admission to the 6th Indian Drymix Mortar Conference is 390 € per person, reduced to 290 € for drymix.info, MEDMA and/or SEADMA partners. Drymix mortar manufacturers pay only 150 € per person. There is a special rebate for drymix mortar makers coming from abroad (Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangla Desh, as well as from SEA or the Middle East): it is only 100 € per person. Special admission for drymix mortar manufacturers that are also members of CCMAI (proof of membership required): 125 €. 4. scalingUp3D, Wopfing and Vienna, Austria, 27. - 28.6.2019: Program Update, Locations, Fees

scalingUp3D - The Interdisciplinary Conference on Printable Mortars, takes place on  27. and 28. June 2019 in Austria. On Thursday, 27. June 19, we will take you on a bus tour to Waldegg (participation limited to 60 delegates!) to the practical sessions and demonstrations. Our host there is the research center of Schmid Holding (Baumit, Wopfinger) which has offered us its excellent facilities and of course highly interesting topics: we will split in three groups and see the mixing process on Testing Bluhm & Feuerherdt's new automated Lab Mixer, the curing behaviour of the 3D drymix mortars using Ultratest's ultrasonic devices, the Viva Research Park, which monitors environmental aspects and indoor air climate using 9 different model houses and of course, last but not least the Bauminator approach to 3D printing of mortars live! Before we leave back to Vienna, we will have a snack and probably some drinks.

The plenary session with our 13 scientific lectures will take place at stylisch Labstelle Wien, in immediate proximity to the City Centre and Stephansdom. Here we will also have a practical demonstration by m-tec of their programmable interface mortar mixer along with additional testing setups (not confirmed yet).

Our Technical Chairmen are Dr. Scott Z. Jones, National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST, Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA and Prof. Dr. Dietmar Aloys Stephan, Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, moderator is Ferdinand Leopolder. Since we ca not admit all delegates to our excursion to Wopfing (limit is 60 delegates) we had to split the admissions. Here is a short summary, please enquire with us in case of questions (all prices include 20% Austrian VAT): Both days: 950 €, reduced to 750 € for members of drymix.info, only 550 € drymix mortar manufacturers. Day Two only (plenary sessions): 550 €, reduced to 420 € for members of drymix.info, only 280 € drymix mortar manufacturers, 180 € for students and faculty. Delegates that have already registered and paid will be contacted by us in order to adjust their participation and refunds due.

5. drymix.info Foto Archives Ready for Use: Let's Become a Real Community!

Many of our visitors have urged us to publish pictures of our events online, and we have failed to do so in the past (main reason: too much work, too little software ;-), but now we are at a break through: the drymix.info archives are being filled as we speak and the first „dummy“ is online already. We have selected fotos from the 6th American Drymix Mortar Conference admmc six in Chicago, IL, USA and published them using our new online tool. Here you can scroll through impressions of our host city, the event itself and you can see all lecturers. We are providing a small thumbnail and a mid-size image for easy viewing. We will keep adding events successively and will inform the delegates with separate e-mails once an event has been uploaded.

6. Sika Takes over King Packaged Materials and Shotcrete Equipment

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland (by way of Sika Canada of Pointe Claire, Quebec) has taken over King Packaged Materials Company and King Shotcrete Equipment Inc., from KPM Industries Ltd. Oakville, Ontario, Canada. King Packaged Materials produces drymix mortars for various applications, special compounds (for mining applications and shotcreting) and concrete repair systems. The company also manufactures equipment for mining and tunelling and serves retail, wholesale and project sales channels. King operates three plants in Canada (Boisbriand, QC, Brantford, ON and Sudbury, ON).

The acquired business is expected to generate annual sales of 54 mio Euro (CAD 81 million) with a workforce of 180 employees. A transaction value was not given by either party. KPM Industries Ltd., owned by the Hutter and Macpherson families, stated, that King Fabricating will remain under the current KPM Industries Ltd. ownership structure.

7. Cemex Sells its White Cement Business in Europe to Cimsa

Cemex, S.A.B. de C.V., Monterrey, México (Cemex) has reached a binding agreement with Çimsa Çimento Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S., Istanbul, Turkey (Cimsa) to divest part of its white cement business, including its Buñol plant in Spain, for approximately 158 mio Euro. Cemex's white cement operations in México as well as its Lehigh Cement investment in the US are not part of the deal. Both Cemex and Cimsa expect the final signing of the agreement to take place in late April 2019. The transaction is still subject to regulatory and anti-trust approvals.

8. Maltech Joins drymix.info as Industrial Partner

Maltech GmbH, Campo di Trens, Italy, has decided to join drymix.info as Industrial Partner. The company was founded in 1979. Maltech ("malta" means mortar in Italian) produces jobsite machinery for all sorts of drymix mortars such as pumps and mixers for wet materials such as renders, screeds and also equipment to convey dry materials such as silo mixing pumps, conveying systems.

We warmly welcome Maltech GmbH to our community.

9. Sika Starts Mortar Production in Senegal, Expands Plant in Egypt

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland has recently announced it has recently started up a drymix mortar plant at its existing location in Dakar, Senegal. The initial product portfolio there will consist of cementitious tile adhesives (CTA) and grouts, as well as repair and waterproofing mortars. Sika has also substantially enabled its existing drymix mortar plant in Alexandria, Egypt, by adding new production lines. According to Ivo Schädler, Sika's Manager for the EMEA region, the plant's production capacity has been doubled to meet the rising demand in Egypt.
