1. SEADMA: Third Malaysia Executive Forum, KL, 25. August 2015 on Jobsite Automation

The Malaysia Construction Industry Development Board CIDB is cooperating with Lafarge Malaysia and The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA to hold the Third Malaysia Executive Forum in Kuala Lumpur at Seri Pacific Hotel on Tuesday, 25. August 2015 (09:00 - 12:00). The Topic for the technical consultations is "Automated Mortar Application Eliminates The Need for Jobsite Mixing". The organizers will personally invite functionaries of Master Builders of Malaysia MBAM, The Real Estate Housing Developers Association RHEDA and the Malaysia Institute of Architects PAM (Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia) to join this important dialogue.

Throughout South East Asia (and beyond, in India and China!), the problems linked to conventional mortar preparation on-site have been identified and recognized. Legislative initiatives to address these issues have been undertaken in China (ban on jobsite mix since 2006), Singapore (HDB) and Malaysia (CIDB). Upon initiative of CIDB, Lafarge and
SEADMA this comprehensive Executive Forum has been brought under way. For the traditional method, the expert lecturers explain the waste of materials, bad jobsite traffic, the inferior, uneven quality and the loss in efficiency. In the second session, solutions using drymix mortar in combination with jobsite machinery as well as silos are being presented and discussed. It is the opinion of both SEADMA and Lafarge that a ban on jobsite mixing, as it exists in China for quite some time and lately for certain renovation jobs in Singapore would be a prudent legislative measure to improve the construction flow, the overall quality and durability (longevity) of residential and commercial real estate in Malaysia.

The forum is being moderated by Ferdinand Leopolder, additional experts from SEADMA and Lafarge will join in. The event is by invitation only, sorry, no walk-ins will be admitted. SEADMA members acting as sponsors are however welcome (they obtain 2 free passes), please immediately enquire with us through info@drymix.info.

9. The Government of Vietnam Passes New Law on Real Estate Ownership

Effective 1. July 2015, the Government of Vietnam has passed an important law regulating real estate ownership anew: from this date on, Vietnamese living abroad can buy and own flats, homes, commercial real estate or land and other residential units, and so can (and this is really new) foreigners! The new law grants the respective owners all rights to lease or rent the apartment, house or land for a period of 50 years - they do not have to use it for themselves or their families. With this law the Government of Vietnam expects a push in residence and condominium construction, which would later be available to the lease or rental market. Of course some conditions apply, e.g. foreigners must prove residence in Vietnam for at least 12 months, but after all, the new law means a de-regulation and liberalisation of the real estate market and the building materials industry will certainly profit from the large projects already under way and led by international real estate investors.

10. Heidelberg Cement Intends to Fully Buy Italcementi

HeidelbergCement AG, Heidelberg, Germany has reached agreement with Italmobiliare SpA to buy all shares of the Pesenti family in Italcementi SpA, Bergamo, Italy, which amount to 45% of Italcementi at 10,60 Euro per share (total investment is 1.670 mio Euro in stock and cash). After obtaining the approval by competition authorities, HeidelbergCement will offer the same price for each share held by free investors. The price offered for each share is 61% higher than Italcementi's closing price before the deal was announced. The Pesenti family, led by Carlo Pesenti will obtain a 6% share in HeidelbergCement.

With this transaction, HeidelbergCement achieves worldwide market leadership in the aggregates field and closes the gap somehow to LafargeHolcim by becoming worldwide Nr. 2 in cement. The deal would strengthen HeidelbergCement in Italy, the Middle East and Africa Egypt as well as in France and Belgium. HeidelbergCement expects annual synergies of 175 mio Euro by 2018 from the acquisition.
