1. Correction drymix.info News 164/2015: Lhoist

When we welcomed Lhoist as new Industrial Partner to drymix.info, we made some mistakes which we are glad to correct: Lhoist was founded in 1889 by Hippolyte Dumont, Lhoist's first plant was then inaugurated in Hermalle, Belgium. Lhoist's group headquarters are located in Limelette (Belgium).

We apologize for the errors in the initial announcement.

2. Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting, Mexico City: MONDAY, 14. September 2015

drymix.info invites mortar experts from the entire region to the first Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting. The event takes place on Monday, September 14, 2015, from  9 am to 3 pm at Sheraton Mexico City Maria Isabel Hotel, Mexico City, Mexico. As always, the meeting will feature comprehensive technical lectures, an industry showcase and provide ample networking time for all delegates. Supporters so far include J. Rettenmaier, Kerneos, Lahti, Poraver, Sofraden and Wacker Chemie. Of course additional sponsors are welcome. In our next newsletter, we will present the programme for the meeting.

Registration of delegates has already started. Online registration is available at drymix.info (Visa or Mastercard required). Regular Admission is 315 € (US$ 350), reduced admission for members of drymix.info is 260 € (US$ 290). An especially reduced admission is available for drymix mortar manufacturers they pay only 170 € (US$ 190).

3. 4th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference ladmmc four, 6.11.15, Sao Paulo: Programme

The 4th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference ladmmc four takes place at Club Transatlântico, São Paulo, Brasil on 6. November 2016. This traditional, full-day conference is the only one entirely focussed on drymix mortar in South America and  unites the experts from this area with delegates from the US, Europe and elsewhere. A comprehensive lecturing programme featuring 12 scientific speeches by industry experts has been chosen by Mario Kristeller, the Technical Chairman of ladmmc four. As always, the event will feature an Industry Showcase as well as ample networking time for the delegates. Registration is open and sponsoring is still welcome. The programme has been published on www.drymix.info, it is also available in Portuguese. Simultaneous translation Portuguese - English - Portuguese is offered for all delegates. For the first time, an especially reduced admission is available for drymix mortar manufacturers, they pay only 235 € (800 BR$). Due to multiple requests from our Brasilian delegates, we have again established a payment channel via our partner MCK Consultoria in São Paulo: payments can be done via bank-to-bank transfer in Brasilian Reais (for mortar manufacturers: 800 BR$). 4. Ferro to Acquire Nubiola

Ferro Corporation, Mayfield Heights, Ohio, USA will acquire all shares of Nubiola Pigmentos, Barcelona, Spain (‘Nubiola’) for the sum of 146 mio Euro, subject to customary closing conditions. Nubiola, founded in 1914 and family owned since then is a producer of specialty inorganic pigments and the world’s largest producer of Ultramarine Blue, which is also marketed worldwide into the drymix mortar and concrete parts industry. Nubiolas sales reached over 100 mio Euro in 2014, its business growth rate (CAGR) was over 4 % over the last three years. Nubiola employs approximately 750 people, the company operates production facilities in Spain, Colombia, Romania and India as well as a joint venture in China.

Ferro is a globally active producer of inorganic pigments, enhancers and other specialty products for the coatings, paints and ink industries. According to Peter Thomas, Chairman, President and CEO of Ferro Corporation Nubiola is "...an excellent strategic fit with Ferro .... (the acquisition) will significantly expand our product portfolio and geographic footprint and ... Nubiola will bring technology leadership on a global scale in Ultramarine Blue, along with a range of other high-value pigment and corrosion inhibitor product lines."

5. Exeed Premium Plaster Abu Dhabi Joins MEDMA

Exeed Premium Plaster has decided to become a member of The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA e.V. The company, part of Exeed Industries (in turn part of the state controlled National Holding), operates an integrated drymix mortar plant in ICAD 2, a huge industrial agglomeration on the Abu Dhabi Mainland. Exeed Premium Plaster produces cementitious base and specialty renders, tile adhesives, External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems and other specialty mortars. Apart from this mortar activity, Exeed Industries produces precast concrete parts, lightweight (cellular) concrete panels, glass wool and other building materials.

MEDMA warmly welcomes Exeed Premium Plaster as a new member.

6. BASF Opens Construction Chemicals Plant in India

BASF SE Ludwigshafen has recently opened up its new construction chemical plant in Nellore (Andhra Pradesh, South-East India). It is BASF'S fifth (and largest) production plant for these products in India.  In Nellore, BASF will manufacture concrete admixtures, waterproofing compounds as well as specialty drymix mortars such as cementitious tile adhesives (CTA), self-levelling underlayments (SLU) and concrete renovation systems. Other construction chemicals production sites in India are located in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, Nalagarh, and Kolkata.

Raman Ramachandran, Chairman and Managing Director, BASF India Limited and Head, BASF South Asia added, “(...) the Nellore site enables us to stay close to our customers and offer them customized solutions to meet the growing demands for multi-story buildings, long-lasting infrastructure constructions and more energy-efficient construction techniques.” The Construction Chemicals division employs about 5.400 people globally and operates production sites and sales centers in more than 50 countries and achieved sales of about 2.100 million Euro in 2014.

7. Wacker Increases Prices for Dispersions in EMEA-Region

Wacker Chemie AG, headquartered in Munich, Germany, is raising its prices for vinyl acetate homopolymer dispersions as well as vinyl acetate-ethylene and ethylene-vinyl chloride-based copolymer dispersions (tradenames Vinnapas, Vinnol) in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) by up to 50 Euro per ton. This measure comes into effect on 15. June 2015, or as customer contracts allow. Wacker cites the increase in the costs of raw materials as reason for this price increase.
