5. admmc four, Atlanta, GA, April 8, 2014: Accomodation Advice

The Fourth American Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase admmc four will take place at Omni Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia, USA on April 8, 2014. The Technical Chairman Prof. Dr. Johann Plank, Technische Universität München, Germany (TUM), has reviewed the papers submitted and we will list the preliminary programme in our next Newsletter.

Accomodation Advice: please note, that American Coatings Show takes place in the same period at the convention centre right next to Omni Hotel (actually from April 8 to April 10, 2014). This gives you on one side the opportunity to visit this importnant exhibition, on the other hand, accomodation might be hard to come by. We listed additional hotels within walking distance from CNN centre/ Omni Hotel on our website for your convenience. Needless to say, it is advisable to book accomodation soon.

6. Aalborg Portland Malaysia Joins SEADMA

Aalborg Portland Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Ipoh, has decided to join The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA as Industrial Partner. The availability of very pure and clean limestone in Ipoh in North Western Malaysia makes it possible to produce a high quality white cement there. The production unit for white cement in Ipoh was acquired by Aalborg Cement (Aalborg, Denmark) in 2000. Aalborg is today part of Cementir Holding SpA, Rome, Italy, which is the largest producer of white cement in the world. Cementir had acquired Aalborg and its subsidiaries in 2004.

SEADMA warmly welcomes Aalborg Portland Malaysia amongst its members.

7. Germany Passes new Law on Energy Savings

The Federal Assembly of Germany has approved a law calling for increased energy efficiency for new buildings. It mainly contains a -25% reduction on energy consumption and means more severe requirements for thermal insulation, windows, overall design and heating systems. It also intensifies the criteria for the so-called "Energy Passport" which is mandatory for each building when it is being sold, rented out or leased (we reported earlier). In society, and especially in the construction industry, the measures to improve energy efficiency are regarded as bureaucratic and too vague. The new law is viewed as not helpful at all, since it leaves out requirements for the large amount of existing buildings in Germany. The new law will become effective in summer of 2014 and will apply to the planning of all new buildings from then on.
