The Third Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase ladmmc three takes place at Club Transatlantico, Sao Paulo, Brasil on Friday, 8. November 2013. Over 130 delegates from throughout the Americas as well as from Europe are expected during this (only) conference on technical topics concerning drymix mortars for Central and South America. The choice of lectures has been made by ladmmc Technical Chairman Mario Kristeller. The Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2013 is being distributed and simultaneous translation Portuguese - English - Portuguese is available for all delegates. Admission is 265 €/R$ 700 per person ( drymix.info members pay only 240 €/R$ 630). 2. MEDMA Annual General Meeting at Al Badia Golf Club, Dubai, UAE, on 25.11.13

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA e.V. invites all its members, partners and friends to its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 25. November 2013, 18:00, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (we reported earlier). The meeting (traditionally) takes place at fantastic Al Badia Golf Club, a festive dinner is included. The MEDMA AGM is free of charge for MEDMA members (up to two representatives of each company), all others pay 650 AED per person. Advance registration is mandatory by e-mail to info@drymix.info, the event is being sponsored by Gypsemna and Personal Factory, thank you very much.

3. SEADMA Conference, KL, 28.11.2013: NEW LOCATION Aloft Hotel KL Sentral

The 8th Annual SEADMA Conference and Industry showcase will take place on 28. November 2013 at Aloft Hotel KL Sentral (not, as initially planned at Hilton Hotel). Aloft Hotel is located near KL Sentral Station with direct access to KL International Airport, too, there is a fast train (KLIA Ekspres) going non-stop to and from KLIA in just under 30 minutes. Delegates that have already reserved at Hilton can stay there, since Aloft Hotel is within walking distance. Room rates at the stylish and brand new Aloft Hotel are MYR 310.00+ (single) and MYR 355.00+ (double) including breakfast and internet. Delegates should mention SEADMA when making their reservation.

Over 70 drymix mortar experts have already registered for this key networking event in South East Asia for the drymix mortar industry. The full day conference will feature 12 technical lectures as well as the SEADMA Annual General Assembly, where SEADMA members can vote for the new Executive Committee. Proposed new EC members are Mrs. Hong Fang Chen of Kerneos Singapore, Mr. Terence Yong of Pye Products, Malaysia, Mr. Fun-Tee Chen of Lafarge Malaysia and Mr. Nurlijan Noerjanto of m-tec Indonesia.

Delegates can register online for the 8th Annual SEADMA Conference using Master or Visa credit cards. 4. Sievert Group Buys out Minority Shareholders of  Quick-Mix

Sievert AG of Osnabrück, Germany has recently bought back the remaining 40% of the shares of quick-mix Holding GmbH, Osnabrück from Dyckerhoff AG, Wiesbaden, Germany. With the acquisition of these shares, there are no more minority share holders in Sievert Baustoffgruppe. Prof. Dr. Hans-Wolf Sievert, Speaker of the Supervisory Board announced proudly that "...all shares within Sievert AG are under family control again...". Quick-Mix had a turnover of 230 mio Euro in 2012 and operates plants at 15 sites in Germany and 7 abroad. It is the strongest field of business within Sievert Group and focussed on the production of drymix mortars.

5. Synthomer Expands its Dispersion Plant in Saudi Arabia

Synthomer of Harlow, UK has recently announced a significant increase of its capacity of atmospheric polymerization of dispersions at their existing plant in Dammam, Eastern Region, Saudi Arabia. Synthomer currently manufactures acrylic and vinyl acetate dispersions there, which are being used in the coatings, construction, adhesives, textiles and floor coverings industries. The upcoming increase included, Synthomer expects a production capacity at its Dammam site of 100.000 tons per year by early 2014.

6. drymix.info Starts Offering Materials for Mortar Laboratories

In the course of the establishing of the Middle East Competence Center for drymix mortars for Dubai Central Laboratories (a cooperation with MEDMA, reported earlier), drymix.info has accumulated considerable knowledge on the procuring of materials and supplies used in mortar laboratories. drymix.info will share this experience with its members by starting to offer supplies for mortar laboratories via its website for easy puchasing (payment by Master or Visacard).

The first items on sale are the weights used to prepare the specimens for DIN EN 12004 or ISO 13007. Two weights are required here: one of 20 N for weighing down tiles measuring 50 x 50 mm and one of 50 N for the 100 x 100 mm tiles. Many labs use 2 kg and 5 kg weights instead, some of the 2 kg weighs are even cylindrical with a diameter exceeding 50 mm.

drymix.info is now offering square weights of the desired accuracy (+/- 1 g) fitting the testing tiles exactly. The weights are CNC milled out of stainless steel, calibrated, deflashed and stamped with the exact weight (+/- 0,1 g). Cost for the full set (2 x 20 N and 2 x 50 N) is 420 Euro +VAT + shipping & handling, prices for individual weights will be announced soon. More supplies are to follow.

7. ISO Launches Technical Specification on Carbon Footprint

Since 2008, the ISO/TC 207/SC 7 within ISO worked on the development of a technical specification on the "Management of the Emissions of Greenhouse Gas and Related Activities" and has recently published it. The specification is called ISO/TS 14067 and sets the definitions and guiding principles for the quantification and communication of the so-called Carbon Footprint of products or services. By establishing regulations for this evaluation it is expected to provide more transparency and compatibility of the claimed environmental data. This technical specification has been elaborated in order to tie in with ISO 14001 ("Eco-Audit") and other documents such as the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The new specification currently is in a trial phase with large and medium-sized international companies as well as industry associations. An immediate impact on the product design of drymix mortars cannot be expected at this point in time. But ISO/TS 14067 will help to differentiate and more objectively portray the environmental impact of our products, too.
