4. Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Symposium in Munich, Germany, 17. and 18. 9. 2013

The Symposium  Reduce Reuse Recycle ("RRR MUC"), takes place in Munich, Germany on 17. and 18. 9. 2013. Architect Prof. Muck Petzet and Technische Universität München (TUM) are staging this event as follow-up of the exhibition in the German Pavillion at the 13. International Architecture Biennale di Venezia 2012 (which M. Petzet curated). The Symposium in Munich is being accompanied by an exhibition, which includes pieces from the original installation as well as case studies on Munich RRR projects (or rather proposals) by students of TUM (the exhibition runs until 6.10.2013).

The approach "RRR" focussed on the smart re-design and energetic optimization of the urban landscape with focus on rather preserving existing buildings and their intrinsic "grey energy" than tearing them down and build anew. Especially in Munich, where many post-war buildings are in danger of being destroyed and the prices paid for plots are astronomical, the RRR discussion is necessary. RRR MUC shows alternative scenarios on the handling of long-standing buildings in Munich who are planned to be demolished, e.g. the S-Bahn-Station Olympiastadion or the Central Train Station. The exhibition wants to show concrete possibilities for development for present public and private break-down projects. RRR MUC shall spur the architectural debate, inspire universities and also influence the public discussion and awareness.

RRR MUC is being supported by the German Ministry of Traffic, Construction and Urban Development (BMVBS) the organizing team consists of Muck Petzet, industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, Sally Below Cultural Affairs, Erica Overmeer, Thomas Mayfried, Swantje Grundler und drymix.info.

The drymix mortar industry is providing the majority of the materials for such "preservative renovation" and thus is a main contributor of systems to new RRR strategies. Examples are EIFS, concrete renovation and interior (re-) decoration products. We here at drymix.info coordinate the sponsoring activities for RRR MUC, please contact us via info@drymix.info.
