1. Conference Summary: Advanced Building Materials Middle East

Advanced Building Materials Middle East, 6. and 7. February 2013, Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa
On 6. and 7. February 2013, Advanced Building Materials Middle East takes place at Burj Khalifa, Dubai, UAE (Armani Hotel). Dubai Municipality, Dubai Central Laboratories (DCL) and MEDMA are inviting to this major conference, and Sharjah Research Academy, The Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC), The United Arab Emirates Society of Engineers (UAESOE) and American Institute of Architects (AIA Middle East) are endorsing it. The conference is organized by Sesam Business Consultants and drymix.info. The Technical Committee is being led by Prof. Dr. Mufid Samarai and Mr. Mohammed Sanaobar (Technical Chairman of MEDMA).

2. SOM Architects, the Designers of Burj Khalifa, Hold Lecture and Guide a Tour

Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, was designed by Adrian Smith of Chicago Architect Firm Skidmore, Owens and Merrill (SOM Architects). It was build between 2004 and 2010 for Emaar Properties. Burj Khalifa measures today 828 m and hosts Armani Hotel (Level 0 to 37), as well as office and residential spaces on the remaining levels (38 to 163). A total of over half a million square metres of useable space was created. Eric Tomich of SOM Architects has agreed to present a lecture on 6.2.2013 about the ideas behind the architectural design and the particular challenges in the realisation phase. In the morning of 7.2.2013, the delegates will have the exclusive possibility to access the office and residential areas, where Eric will show us a few examples of the interior design and logistics of this tremendous building. This field trip is highly recommended for all delegates, it is included in the general admission.

Registered Consultants, Architects and Engineers will obtain a Certificate of Participation prepared by UAESOE, as well as Continuous Professional Development Points of USAESOE and/or Learning Units issued by AIA Middle East.

Delegate admission is 1.250 AED (257 Euro), Members of MEDMA pay only 950 AED (195 Euro), a reduced admission for architects and consultants (members of UAESOE, AIA or EGBC) is available at 650 AED (134 Euro).
