1. admmc three, Miami, FL, May 8th, 2012

Drymix mortar experts from North, Central and South America meet in Miami, Florida for The Third American Drymix Mortar Conference admmc three. The event takes place on May 8th at Hotel Hilton Miami Downtown, Florida with a Delegate Welcome on May 7th. As always, admmc three features an Industry Showcase, technical lectures and ample networking time for all experts in the American drymix mortar industry. 

A Sunset Pool Party starts up the meeting on May 7th, 5 PM to 7 PM, delegates can also get their conference h´its there in a casual atmospher. 2. BASF Invests into Integrated Facility in Dahej, India

BASF India Limited, Mumbai, India, has announced to invest Rs. 250 cr (150 million Euro) to set up a new chemical complex at the Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR), located on the west coast of India in Gujarat. Apart from other chemicals and end-products, the new complex will also feature production facilities for polymer dispersions for coatings and paper. Details about capacities were not yet given, the start of production is planned for 2014. BASF currently already produces dispersions at its plant in Mangalore.

3. Consortium Led by Turkish Contractor TAV Wins Large Bid In Saudi Arabia

A joint venture led by TAV Construction from Istanbul, Turkey, has won a contract to build a 600 mio Euro (2.800 mio Saudi Riyal) aircraft maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) facility in Saudi Arabia. The contract for the facility at King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah was awarded by Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI) to a Joint Venture led by TAV with Al Rajhi Holding of Riyadh, KSA and Al Habtoor Leighton of Dubai, UAE. The scope of phase 1 works includes the design and building of 11 aircraft maintenance hangars, ancillary buildings (including a Mosque and a Fire Station), an administration building, closed carpark and aircraft parking aprons. According to SAEI, the design of the facility will allow phased construction to accommodate future capacity expansion requirements. TAV entered the GCC market with its first aircraft hangar project in 2004 and since then they have undertaken major airport developments in the region. 

4. Empire Blended Products Becomes Manufacturing Partner of drymix.info

Empire Blended Products Inc. of Bayville, NJ, USA has decided to join drymix.info as a Manufacturing Partner. Empire Blended Products established in 1946 as a manufacturer of specialty cement products and offers drymix products from tile and floor to bagged specialty concretes. Empire Blended Productsalso operates its fully automated plant for toll manufacturing and private labeling services. Quality control and product development are carried out by a fully equipped lab on the premises in Bayville.

5. Building Materials Cost Increase in the UAE

According to a report released by the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD), United Arab Emirates there was a significant increase in prices for about 50% of the standard portfolio of building materials this institution monitors. The rise in the first quarter of 2012 ranged between 0.8 % over 20% per cent. The highest increase (21.2%) was detected for aggregates and sand, the shortage of quality aggregates seems to have also reached the main concrete and building elements industry. Specialty drymix mortar companies had already encountered such a shortage in hte last decade and have taken to importing sand from Saudi Arabia, or shipping it in from Ras al Khaimah. Also construction labour itself rose by 4.9% compared to the same quarter a year earlier.

6.Holcim Malaysia Joins SEADMA, Caparol Dubai Joins MEDMA

Holcim Malaysia, located in Pasir Gudang (Johor Port), was formerly known as Tenggara Cement, the company was acquired by the Holcim AG, Holderbank, Switzerland in 1999, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary the following year. The company produces various types of cement, pre-cast elements, concrete blocks, mortars and ready-mix concrete with annual sales of over 61 mio Euro (MYR 247 million).

Caparol Dubai, UAE is a partnership between Emaar Industries and Investments (EII) and Deutsche Amphibolin Werke Robert Murjahn GmbH (DAW) of Ober-Ramstadt, Germany. Caparol is manufacturing and marketing decorative paints, concrete coatings and External  Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS). From Dubai, Caparol markets products across the United Arab Emirates, through the GCC and into Lebanon, East Africa and the Maldives, thus acting as a hub for this geographic region. DAW, the mother company, is one of the leaders in professional paint systems and EIFS in Germany and Western Europe.

7. Wacker Increases Prices for Redispersible Powders, Dispersions and Polyvinyl Alcohols 

Wacker Chemie AG of Munich, Germany, Division Polymers will raise its prices for redispersible powders globally, as well as for dispersions and polyvinyl alcohol solutions in Europe. Prices for vinyl acetate-, vinyl chloride- and acrylicbased redispersible powders (tradename Vinnapas) will be increased globally by up to seven percent, or as customer contracts allow. In Europe, prices for vinyl acetate- and acrylate-based dispersions (tradenames Vinnapas and Vinnol) will be raised, as well as for polyvinyl alcohol solutions (trade names Vinnacoat and Polyviol) by up to ten percent. The increase is coming into effect 01. June, 2012, or as individual contract terms allow. Wacker attributes this increase to rising raw materials, energy and transportation costs.
