1. Post-Event Summaries, MEDMA incl AGM (11 and 12OCT23) and Mumbai (17OCT23)

1.1. The 16th Annual MEDMA Conference took place at Sharjah Expo on 11. October 2023, it was hosted by Gulf Coatings Show (Vincentz Network, NuernbergMesse). Attendance was great, over 90 delegates joined, including walk-ins. Laith Haboubi, President of MEDMA greeted the assembly and opened the conference. Contributions and support came from Abu Dhabi University, Agrana, American University of Sharjah, Blackburn Chemicals, Calucem, Caparol/DAW, m-tec, Polyplast, Poraver, Synthomer and Wacker Chemie. 1.2. The next day, MEDMA had called for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the prestigious and historic WTC Club. The Executive Committee of MEDMA, Laith Haboubi (President), Mohammed Sanaobar (Technical Chairman) and Ferdinand Leopolder (Secretary General) welcomed delegates from member and partner companies, industry observers and especially Pidilite Puma, which became a new member on this occasion. The future strategy of MEDMA with particular regional focus on Saudi Arabia was discussed. Also, technically, MEDMa experts will focus technically on multi-level contacts concerning the huge task of repair, renovation and retrofitting of the existing old buildings in Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi especially. The MEDMA EC was re-instated, Leo was entrusted with a membership drive, which will start in late November of this year already.

1.3. The 7th India Drymix Mortar Conference took place in Mumbai at Orchid Hotel near T1 on 17. October 2023. Over 80 experts form the drymix mortar industry of the Indian Subcontinent met and discussed recent developments and took a sharp look at India's bright future. Bajranglal, co-Founder and member of the Construction Chemicals Manufacturer's Association of India (CCMA) opened the conference, Technical Chairmen were Dr. Sumon Chakravarty and Gopinathan Chemannoor. Contributions and support came from Agrana, Avebe, Baumit, Baumix Coimbatore, Fairmate, Fenchem, Haver&Boecker, Imerys, Maleki GmbH, MYK Laticrete, Polyplast, Omya, Somani Ecobuild, Testing Bluhm & Feuerherdt and Wacker Chemie. 2. PPM Elects new Executive Committee, Welcomes New Members at AGM on 17OCT23 in PJ

Perkumpulan Pengilang Mortar Pra-Bancuh Malaysia (Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association PPM, the Malaysia Chapter of SEADMA) has held its Annual General Assembly at Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya, on 17. October 2023. After the membership drive, which was started in July 2023, PPM could welcome many new members some of which were present at the AGM already: Aalborg (Mortar Div.), Duracem, Flin Ken, G-Mix, Great Lime Factory, GRP, Impreno, MC Bauchemie (M), Obaproof, Premium Cempro, QCP Manufacturing, SB Building Solutions, Stepstone. Along with the existing members Affordable Abodes, CMI (Nippon Paint), Pye Products, S3, Stärken, Sika, Vivo Raiser and YTL Cement (Quickmix), PPM has 20 members now, more drymix mortars have already confirmed to join (we will report here later).

The AGM thanked Kenny Wong, Founding President of PPM, for his leadership and voted for the new Executive Committee, which is being led by the new President Terence Yong. The PPM EC consists now of Terence Yong (also in SEADMA EC) plus Allan Yeong (Vice President), Daniel Leong (Secretary), Ham Yean Chung (Assistant Secretary), Chong Wai Loon (Treasurer), Lim Chee Kiong, SBK Dattu, Kenny Wong (Auditor) and Ritchie Lee (Auditor).

3. THU, 23NOV2023, Bogor: 16th Annual SEADMA Conference: Registration Started

Drymix Mortar experts from Indonesia and South East Asia meet in the inspiringly beautiful scenery of Novotel Bogor, Indonesia. The Indonesian SEADMA Chapter Promindo and the Indonesia Construction Contractors Association HAKI are welcoming the drymix mortar community from all around South East Asia to catch up, exchange ideas and of course join the comprehensive lecturing program. Support comes from Actemium, Agrana, Avebe, Baumit, Calucem, Demix, Fenchem Biotek, HAKI, Haver & Boecker, Imerys, Maleki, Maltech, Mortindo, NFLG, Testing Bluhm & Feuerherdt, Trinseo, and Wacker Chemie - thanks a lot.

4. TUE, 20FEB2024: The 6th Australian Drymix Mortar Meeting, Call for Papers Ends soon

The Drymix Mortar Community from Australia, New Zealand and beyond meets on Tuesday, 20. February 2024 at the National Maritime Museum (MuSEAum) in Sydney. A great program is emerging with contributions (so far) from Ardex, Bischof+Klein, Haver & Boecker, Imerys, Maleki GmbH, Poraver, RLA Polymers and Wacker Chemie. Our Call for Papers is still running until 31. October 2023 - hurry up and submit your proposals (lecturing fees apply)!

Admission to The 6th Australia Drymix Mortar Meeting is 550 €, reduced to 450 € for drymix.info members or partners. Drymix mortar manufacturers pay only 190 €. There is a travel allowance of 90 Euro for drymix mortar manufacturers coming from outside New South Wales, please enquire with us.

5. WED, 24. and THU 25APR2024, Manchester: The 1st UK & Ireland Drymix Mortar Meeting

We are excited to be able to host a conference in the UK for the first time. And not only that – thanks to Blackburn Chemicals we can offer a Golf Competition on 24. April! Register early to make sure you will be part of the Golf Trophy as well as the Conference. Also, a Welcome Dinner (sponsors are welcome) will be held that same night, before we meet on 25. April to hear about the latest news from the drymix mortar industry around the UK & Ireland - and of course to catch up with peers and friends from the UK and beyond. Our Call for Papers is still running until 30NOV23 - interested companies are encouraged to submit scientific lectures and/or product presentations (lecturing fees apply, enquire with us).

6. Indocement Takes over Semen Grobogan's Plant in Central Java

Heidelberg Material, AG, Heidelberg, Germany, by way of its subsidiary Indocement, Jakarta, Indonesia has recently acquired Semen Grobogan's brand new clinker and cement plant near Semarang, Central Java. The plant, commissioned only in 2022, can produce 1,8 mio t of clinker and subsequently 2,5 mio t of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). Its limestone reserves (part of the deal) are said to last for another 50 years. The transaction value was not disclosed by either party.

7. Bostik Starts up New Drymix Mortar Plant in Germany, Relocates Administration

Bostik GmbH, Borgholzhausen, Germany has recently started up its new, automated drymix mortar plant and moved its administration into a newly renovated building at its site in Borgholzhausen.  Bostik had acquired an additional terrain of 15.000 sq m there, which included several buildings (plus an empty lot measuring 5.000 sq m). The new drymix mortar plant will produce renovation renders, concrete renovation systems and sealing slurries (tradename „Seal & Block“).

8. Murexin Starts up Production in Mühlheim, Germany

Murexin GmbH of Wiener Neustadt, Austria, has started the production of drymix mortars at its newly acquired site in Mühlheim am Main, Germany (near Frankfurt). With parts of the site still under construction, Murexin currently operates the mixing plant in single-shift mode and produces around 30,000 tons per year. In the future, Murexin plans to extend the production to an operation to three shifts. Also completed was the technical training center and the logistics-hub. The site, a former Baumit location, will also be fitted with a laboratory and administrative offices. "After 10 years of successful growth in Germany, (...) the new site with physical production will ensure continued growth" said Bernhard Mucherl. CEO of Murexin GmbH Austria.
