1. Post event report: Virginia in early June (admmc7 and ScalingUp 3D)

Earlier this month, over 100 NAFTA drymix mortar experts met in Virginia for two wonderful days: The American Drymix Mortar Conference admmc7 and ScalingUp3D 2023 took place at the magnificent Byrd Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, USA on June 8 2023. In the breaks, we had Popcorn, Garrett Walkers Mini-Burgers and Fruitbowls, and the historic Movie Organ played a medley for us (thnaks to Bob!). In the evening we met at TripleCross Brewing on Fulton hill for enjoyable hors d'oeuvres and Pizza plus of course the wonder ful locally brewed beers, thanks to the sponsoring by drymix.info, Imerys, Nouryon and SGGC.

On Friday (June 9, 2023) we had our field trip to Newport News (coach and location sponsored by MAPEI), where we met at Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center for additional lectures on 3D Mortar Printing. The bus then took the assembly (we were over 65 in Newport News still!) to a recently completed 3D Mortar Printing project for Habitat for Humanity, where we got a hands-on impression of this technology's potential. From the proceeds of admmc7/ScalingUp3D, Ferdinand Leopolder donated USD 1,000.00 to Habitat for Humanity for future housing projects.

2. PPM-Meeting on SST in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, Last Week: Post-Event Report

Perkumpulan Pengilan Mortar Pra-Bancuh, The Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association PPM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (a chapter of The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA Ltd, Singapore) had invited to a seminar on the use of Malaysia Sales & Service Tax (SST). Over 40 participants of almost all important Malaysia drymix mortar manufacturers joined us at Hotel Armada, Petaling Jaya, on 22. June 2023.

Derek Wong Yew Fei of KAC Advisory Services (Puchong, Selangor) gave an overview on SST, an update on its recent amendments as well as valuable tips on the application of the rulings as well as the proper categorization of products and services. In the afternoon Hon. Puan Sit Sara Ghazali, Officer and Associate Director of Malaysia Customs visited the assembly and gave an official outlook on practices to file and control SST submissions with particular focus on building materials. Malaysia Customs ruled for drymix mortars to be categorized under SST code 38.24.50.00.00 the sales tax for this group is 10%.  Thanks a lot to Daniel Leong Li Wei, Terence Yong and Allan Yeong from PPM for organizing this important seminar!

Outro grande evento está no horizonte: a 7ª Conferência Latino-Americana de Argamassa Drymix ladmmc7 está chegando na segunda-feira, 7 de agosto de 2023 no Espaço Escandinavo, Morumbi, São Paulo, Brasil, apoiado (até agora!) por Baumit, Cimental, Evonik, FLSmidth, Haver&Boecker, Imerys, m-tec, Maleki, Polyplast, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) e Vale. Produtores de argamassa Drymix e produtos químicos para construção do Brasil e da América do Sul conhecem e apresentam os últimos desenvolvimentos em nossa indústria e em impressão 3D em argamassa. Claro que há tempo de rede amplo. Estamos entusiasmados por finalmente poder alcançar todos da indústria de argamassa drymix, então não deixe de fazer parte do ladmmc7! Another great event is on the horizon: The 7th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference ladmmc7 is coming up on Monday, 7. August 2023 at Espaço Escandinavo, Morumbi, São Paulo, Brasil, supported (so far!) by Baumit, Cimental, Evonik, FLSmidth, Haver&Boecker, Imerys, m-tec, Maleki, Polyplast, Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and Vale. Drymix mortar and construction chemical producers from Brasil and South America meet and present latest developments in our industry and on 3D mortar printing. Of course there is ample networking time. We are excited to finally be able to catch up with everyone from the drymix mortar industry, so do not miss to be part of ladmmc7! Like back in 2019, drymix.info will donate 1.000 € (BR$5.300) to the urban gardener of Cidades sem Fome, Hans Dieter Temp will again be there and tell us about this social enablement project, AND he will bring along some of the delicious results! Our Technical Chairman is Mario Kristeller again, please check out our preliminary list of topics can be found on www.drymix.info. 4. Contributions Accepted from now on: Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2024

drymix.info is calling for articles for publication in the upcoming Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2024. The book will be published on occasion of Great Britain & Ireland Drymix Mortar Meeting, which is scheduled for March 2024 in Central England. The Drymix Mortar Yearbook is the only publication focussed entirely on drymix mortars (publishing fees apply). We would be pleased to have your scientific articles or advertorials in our Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2024, the earlier, the better (deadline is 01. December 2023).

5. 16th Annual MEDMA Conference on 11. October 23 alongside with Gulf Coating Show in Sharjah

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA - in cooperation with Vincentz Network - invites to Drymix Mortar in the Middle East - The 16th Annual MEDMA Conference at Sharjah Expo on 11. October 2023. The Call for Papers is still open until 30. June. To submit lecturing proposals for scientific lectures or product presentations please contact info@drymix.info.

Admission to Drymix Mortar in the Middle East - The 16th Annual MEDMA Conference is free of charge, however advance registration is mandatory by e-mail to info@drymix.info  (seating and audio support are limited).

MEDMA members and partners are invited to join the festive MEDMA Annual General Assembly on Thursday, 12. October 2023 in the evening (details and formal invitation will go out to them in July 2023).

6. 3D Weight Reduced Parking-deck Ceiling by Baumit/TU Graz/Eigner Wins Prize

InformationsZentrum Beton GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany has awarded its German Architecture Award Concrete 2023 to the concrete lightweight ceiling we reported about in our Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2022. This ceiling was manufactured using 3D mortar printed (lost/integrated) formwork which was combined with conventional concrete with a reduced carbon footprint. Those molds were built by Eigner Bauunternehmung in Nördlingen, Germany using the Bauminator System of Baumit, Wopfing, Austria. The structural design came from Technical University of Graz, Austria, the design was done by Lattke Architekten, Augsburg, Germany. 7. Holcim Acquires Minerales y Agregados in Guatemala

Holcim AG of Zug, Switzerland has acquired the mortar and adhesives producer Minerales y Agregados, Sanarate (65 km north of Guatemala City). Apart from mining aggregates, Minerales y Agregados also produces drymix mortars branded Fixo and Pegatec. This is Holcims first operation in Guatemala. The transaction value has not been disclosed.

8. Baumit Opens New Drymix Mortar Plant near Hamburg/Germany

Baumit of Wopfing, Austria has recently opened its new plant in Wittenborn, due North of Hamburg, Germany. With a production capacity of 130.000 tons per year, the fully automated drymix mortar mixing plant triples the capacity of the previous facility at the same location. The plant uses new storing and cooling technology, of which Baumit expects an efficiency increase of 25% with significant CO2 saving at the same time.

9. Sika Opens New Plant in India's West Bengal Region

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland, has recently opened up a new production and logistics site in Kharagpur, India (130 km West of Kolkata). The investment is focussed on the manufacturing of drymix mortars, concrete admixtures and set accelerators for shotcrete. Apart from the various plants, the new location will also host offices, warehouses and laboratories. The new location at Kharagpur serves West Bengal with its over 100 mio inhabitants and also India's North East region. It is Sika's 12th production site in India, where the company is active since over 40 years. The value of the investment was not disclosed.
