0. Large Fire Yesterday Wrecks Sika Site and Plant in Tuas, Singapore

Yesterday evening (Singapore time) a large fire broke out at Sika Singapore's Tuas head office and plant (former Parex-Davco site). It consumed most of the warehouses as well as the tower plant, further damage is yet to be examined. According to CNA news reports, 2 people suffered minor injuries, all 40 people on the grounds had self-evacuated and are accounted for. The blaze was apparently spurred by solvent containing liquids in the warehouse area, its cause remains to be determined.

6. First Lot of a 3D Printed Housing Complex in Kenya Completed by 14Trees

14Trees, Jona, Switzerland - a joint.venture between Holcim, Ltd of Zug, Switzerland and CDC Group (the former Commonwealth Development Corporation), London United Kingdom - has announced the completion of 10 homes printed using 3D Mortars, near Kilifi, on Kenya's Eastern shore. The entire project - called Mvale Gardens - will encompass 52 single-floor bungalows, each measuring 76 sq.m and is intended as low-income housing. A prototype was already built in late 2021 on the grounds of Bamburi Cement in Ahti River (near Nairobi), Holcim's local partner in Kenya. Using the current setup, 14Trees can print one entire home in one week, overall cost per square meter of floor space built is estimated to be 220 to 240 €/sq.m., which - according to François Penot of Holcim - makes serial 3D printing over 20% cheaper than conventional brick&mortar construction. 14Trees is using Holcim's mortar system (tradename TectorPrint), an automated mixer/pump and the BOD-2 printer of Cobod, Copenhagen, Denmark (Holcim is one of the key shareholders there).
