1. Drymix Mortars in the Middle East, Dubai, Monday, 6. February 2023

The 15th Annual MEDMA Conference “Drymix Mortars in the Middle East” takes place on Monday, 6. February 2023 at Radisson Red Convention Center Dubai Silicon Oasis. The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA, Dubai, UAE, invites all experts and peers to this first gathering of the drymix mortar industry in the Middle East (GSO and beyond) after the pandemic. 2. 4th Philippine Drymix Mortar Meeting, Thursday 9. February 2023

The 4th Philippine Drymix Mortar Meeting Philippine is the first reunion of construction materials experts there since 2018 (this meeting was the first to be cancelled in March 2020). It takes place at Holiday Inn & Suites Makati City on Thursday, 9. February 2023. The Philippine Drymix Mortar Manufacturers Association PhilDMMA and The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA have put together an extensive program of technical lectures and product presentations. And of course the schedule provides for ample networking time for all delegates. Support comes from Actemium, Arxada/Troy Siam, Haver & Boecker, Imerys, MC Bauchemie, Omya, Pye Products, Trinseo and Wacker Chemie South East Asia. Needless to say, that without this sponsoring, such a meeting would not be possible.

3. idmmc9, Nürnberg, Germany, 27. March 2023: Program

idmmc9 , the 9th International Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase takes place on Monday, 27. March 2023 at Kleine Meistersingerhalle in Nürnberg, Germany. Our traditional casual Delegate Welcome takes place on Sunday, 26. March 2023, 19:00, it is sponsored by Calucem - we need more sponsors for this fun evening, please. Please note the new location: Fränkische Weinstube im Handwerkerhof, inside the historic fortifications of Königstor (opposite of Hauptbahnhof).

The layout for our new Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2023 is almost ready and the material will go to the printers next week. 5. The Calls for Papers for Brasil (7AUG23), India (17OCT23) and Indonesia (23NOV23) are Open

Here is a short reminder for our supporters to prepare early enough for our upcoming events:

The 7th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference ladmmc7 takes place at Espaço Escandinavo, São Paulo, Brasil, on Monday, 7. August 2023. We also plan an evening event that day, since the event takes place right before the Concrete Show and many of our friends will be in town. The program for ladmmc7 is almost complete, the Call for Papers expires on 28FEB23.

The 7th India Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase takes place in or near Mumbai, India (exact location tbd.) on Tuesday, 17. October 2023. This Call for Papers expires on 31MAY23.

The 16th Annual SEADMA Conference and Industry Showcase takes place in or near Jakarta, Java, Indonesia (exact location tbd., we might do it in Bogor, Central Java) on Thursday, 23. November 2023. The Call for Papers expires on 30JUN23.

6. Nippon Paint Joins PPM (SEADMA Malaysia) as Member

Nippon Paint Malaysia Sdn Bhd of Shah Alam, Malaysia (part of Nippon Paint Holdings Co., Ltd., Osaka, Japan), has decided to join Perkumpulan Pengilang Mortar Pra-Bancuh Malaysia (PPM, SEADMA's local chapter in Malaysia) as a member. Established in 1967, Nippon Paint offers various products for the coating industry. In 2022 the company acquired CMI Construction Material Industry (we reported earlier), which added cementitious drymix mortars to Nippon Paint's portfolio. Products such as skim coats, plasters, tile adhesives and grouts, waterproofing compounds and technical mortars are now being marketed under the name CMI within the Nippon Paint products family.

PPM and SEADMA warmly welcome the team of Nippon Paint as Member.

7. Nouryon Joins drymix.info as Industrial Partner

Nouryon Chemicals Holding B.V. of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, has decided to join drymix.info as Industrial Partner. Nouryon produces specialty chemicals used e.g. in construction applications such as paints, coatings and drymix mortars. The company is operating in over 80 countries with over 7.500 employees around the world. Part of Nouryons portfolio for drymix mortars are Cellulose Ethers (Brandname Bermocoll).

8. Saint-Gobain (Chryso) Acquires Matchem (Brasil) and Makes Offer for IDP Chemicals (Egypt)

Saint-Gobain, Paris, through its Chryso division, has completed the acquisition of Matchem, São Paulo, Brasil. Matchem is mainly active in the concrete admixtures business with plasticizers, air entraining agents, accelerators and for curing/setting control. Apart from São Paulo, the company operates a subsidiary in Pernambuco (North Eastern Brasil). Matchem, founded in 2011, has 50 employees and generated a turnover of 20 mio Euro in 2021.

Saint-Gobain/Chryso is also in final discussions of taking over its long-time partner IDP Chemicals, Giza, Egypt, with which a cooperation (licensing) exists since 2018. IDP produces also construction chemicals and employs 25 people. Saint Gobain expects to finalize the ICP acquisition in the first quarter of 2023. Transaction values were not disclosed for either deal.

9. Sika Spins off Parts of MBCC's Concrete Admixture Business to Ineos

In its effort to integrate MBCC, Mannheim, Germany, Sika AG, Baar, Switzerland has complied with conditions of various regional anti-trust authorities concerning the concrete admixtures business. Ineos Enterprises, Rolle, Switzerland (part of Ineos AG, London, Great Britain) has agreed to take over the former MBCC activities in the US, Canada, Europe (Great Britain) as well as in Australia and New Zealand. These activities realized a turnover of 916 mio Euro in 2022, operated plants and offices in 36 countries and employed 1.600 people. A transaction value was not given by either party. Sika expects to complete integration of MBCC within the first quarter of this year.
