4. New Date for ladmmc7 in São Paulo: 7. August 2023, just before Concrete Show

The 7th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase ladmmc7 (initially scheduled to take place this week) takes place in São Paulo, Brasil, on Monday, 7. August 2023. Our Technical Chairman Mario Kristeller and Leo have chosen this date due to its immediate proximity before Concrete Show as well as reflecting the Brasil school holiday calendar. Supporters are asked to confirm their participation early, companies that had already booked their package for this week are guaranteed this year's prices for ladmmmc7 in 2023.

5. Saint Gobain Completes Acquisition of GCP Applied Technologies

Construction material manufacturer Saint Gobain North America of Malvern, Pennsylvania, USA has recently completed the acquisition of GCP Applied Technologies of Alpharetta, Georgia, USA. GCP produces building materials as well as cement additives and concrete admixtures, the company had a turnover of 1.025 mio Euro (close to 1.000 mio USD) in 2021 and employs 1.800 people at 50 production sites worldwide. It can be assumed, that synergies are expected when integrating GCP's building materials division (CGP turnover 2021: 250 mio USD) into CertainTeed (roofing, siding, fencing, insulation) and CGP's construction chemicals division (CGP turnover 2021: 750 mio USD) into Chryso (additives and admixtures). Back in December 2021, when both companies announced the deal, the transaction value was not disclosed. All anti-trust approvals have been obtained, CGP will be delisted from  the New York Stock Exchange.

6. Evonik Sells Insulation Panels Business to Kingspan

Evonik AG, Essen, Germany, has recently sold its high-performance insulation panels business (tradename Calostat) to Kingspan Group, Kingscourt, Ireland. The deal includes existing business, branding, technical knowhow and production assets at Hanau-Wolfgang. The panels are microporous, water-repellent and fire-resistant (Class A) and can be applied in thinner layers due to their superior insulation capacity. "In developing Calostat, Evonik has created an insulating material that (...) is slim, highly efficient, Class A rated, and Cradle-to-Cradle certified" said Alan Lawlor, Divisional Managing Director for Kingspan Insulation. Evonik will continue to supply its raw materials for the production of Calostat panels. A transaction value was not given by either party.

7. Knauf Builds Two New Plants in Romania

Knauf Group of Iphofen, Germany is investing about 200 mio Euro into new capacities in Romania. 135 mio Euro will go into the construction of an additional insulation panels plant in Tarnaveni (north of Sibiu). Knauf will also build a new line for gypsum boards in Huedin, near Cluj-Napoca, estimated investment cost there is 76 mio Euro. The Romanian governments’ plans for energetic building renovation will create a significantly higher demand for insulation materials. Both plants lay in the Cluj Napoca region, from where most of Romania and also surrounding countries such as Hungary, Serbia and Ukraine can easily be reached.
