1. In one Month: The 7th Central and South European Drymix Mortar Conference cedmmc7 in Istanbul, 15.9.22

In about four weeks, our 7th Central and South European Drymix Mortar Conference cedmmc7 and Industry Showcase will take place at Çırağan Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. Thanks to our supporters in the industry, we have lined up a wonderful program for drymix mortar experts from Southern Europe. Registrations are running strong (like in Mexico last June), we have close to 70 confirmations already, so our conference will have way over 100 delegates. Further to the previously published topics, lectures of Imerys on binder content and Celanese on science of tiling are recent additions to the program (see: https://www.drymix.info/index.php?id=1451).

All delegates are invited to our Bosphorus cruise after the cedmmc7, starting right from the jetty outside. The cruise is sponsored by Calucem, Kalekim and Wacker Chemie, thanks a lot! Your confirmation for this tour is mandatory, please send us an e-mail if you wish to participate.

The 7th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase ladmmc7 takes place at Espaço Escandinavo, São Paulo, Brasil, 20. October 2022 (new location!). 1.12.22: The completion of the Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2023 is scheduled for 1. December 2022, please prepare your submissions.

1.12.22: The 14th Annual SEADMA Conference takes place at Swissôtel Bangkok Ratchada, Thailand on Thursday, 1. December 2022. The Call for Papers is still running please propose lectures and think about sponsoring.

17.1.23: Drymix Mortars in the Middle East (MEDMA Annual Conference) in Dubai takes place on 17. January 2023 (new date, postponed due to Soccer World Championship in Qatar Nov/Dec 2022). The Call for Papers is still open.

9.2.23: The 4th Philippine Drymix Mortar Meeting takes place in Manila on 9. February 2023, the Call for Papers is still open.

27.3.23: The 9th international Drymix Mortar Conference idmmc9 takes place in Nürnberg, Germany on 27. March 2023. Attention: the Call for Papers expires on 1. October 2022

28.3.22: The construction Chemicals Session of the European Coatings Congress 2023 (Technical Chairmen Prof. Dr. Andreas Gerdes, Ferdinand Leopolder) takes place on 28. March 2023. Attention: the Call for Papers expires on 15. September 2022

4. Evonik Joins The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA

Evonik Holding MEA, part of Evonik Industries AG, Essen, Germany, has recently decided to join The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA (a Dubai, UAE Association) as Industrial Partner. Evonik MEA has regional offices in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya. In addition, Evonik also has two production plants in South Africa and in Saudi Arabia.

5. Münzing Starts Operation of New Production Facility

Münzing Chemie of Heilbronn, Germany has inaugurated a new production plant for wax and polymer emulsions in Elsteraue, Germany. The manufacturer of chemical additives has invested over 50 mio Euro into the facility, that produces water-based wax emulsions and other special additives such as powder defoamer. 40 new jobs have been created at the new site of a size of 20.000 sq.m. Special attention was paid to energy-saving, a recovery process is supposed to enable a flow-back of 70% of the used energy into the facility.

6. Arkema to Acquire Polimeros Especiales

Arkema of Colombes, France, has announced plans to buy aqueous emulsion producer Polimeros Especiales of Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico. Polimeros Especiales produces water-based polymers for a broad range of applications in markets such as paints, textiles, pressure sensitive adhesives and construction. Polimeros Especiales' turnover was 39 mio Euro in 2021 and the company employed 230 people. A transaction value was not disclosed by either party.

7. Sika Final Takeover of MBCC Targeted for the First Half of 2023

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland, has now targeted the closing of MBCC Group (former BASF Construction Chemicals, Mannheim, Germany) for the first half of 2023. Reason for this delay (the completion of the takeover was planned by end-2022) is an announced in-depth examination by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Sika has already obtained unconditional acceptance of the takeover by many relevant anti-trust authorities worldwide (e.g. by Brasil, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Turkey). According to Sika, synergies amounting to around 170 mio Euro per year can be expected after completion.
