1. Mexico City in June: over 100 Delegates Joined 4th Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting

The 4th Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting in Mexico City took place on 21. June at Holiday Inn Plaza Universidad. The event featured lectures by Black Buffalo 3D, Cemix, Dow, Imerys, Haver&Boecker, Laticrete, m-tec, Omya, Polyplast, Pyrotek and Wacker Chemie, additional support came from Cellrex, Maltech and JRS Mexico. We could welcome more than 100 Delegates - 105 to be exact  - way more than we expected. Experts came from Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Spain, Russia and the US. Thanks a lot to all our delegates, which gave us a rating of 7,6 points out of 10. Judging from the amount of friends that hung out at the bar afterwards, all enjoyed the event including us (Meliza, Carlos and Leo). If possible we will be back with a two-day event (workshop + lectures) in 2024.

We are thrilled that finally live and in-person events give the opportunity for personal exchange and prove to be such a success - this makes us even more looking forward to meeting you at the upcoming opportunities in Istanbul (15.9.22, see program below) and São Paolo (20.10.22, Call for Papers expiring)!

2. MEDMA UAE Resuming Operations: Visit at DCL in May, New President to Be Elected in July

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA, Dubai UAE has completed its move from Germany to the UAE. At our Member's Assembly in February of this year, the membership commitments and fees for 2022 were fixed and high level consultations with Dubai Municipality's Central Labs (DCL) were initiated by Prof. Samarai. This led to a physical meeting with the leaders of DCL in May 2022. A continuation of our technical exchange and cooperation was decided upon with particular focus on enforcement of GSO-ISO 13007 for tile adhesives and grouts in Dubai.

MEDMA's next meeting of members and partners will take place at 21. July 2022, 16:00 at the MEDMA UAE, Dubai Association Centre, The Offices 2, One Central, Dubai World Trade Center Complex, Dubai, UAE. All members and partners are invited to elect our new President. Mr. Laith Haboubi, Vice President Middle East for the Vector Corrosion Group (a Canadian company specializing in the investigation, design, specification and supply of corrosion solutions for reinforced concrete and post tensioning) has agreed to run as candidate for the MEDMA UAE presidency. Needless to say that we fully support Laith's candidature, also since he has already been our President of MEDMA e.V., Munich, in the past. Laith has a lot of experience in the construction chemicals industry in the NME region and a strong focus on drymix mortars. Amongst others he worked at Mapei, Grace and MCT in the mortar business. His new position enables him to become a neutral, unbiased yet knowledgable President. Considering his creativity and connections, also to consultants and developers, we are sure he will bring MEDMA forward in the intended ways.

A tradução simultânea português - inglês é fornecida para todos os delegados.

5. SEADMA (Bangkok, 1.12.22) and MEDMA (Dubai, 6.12.22) Announce Annual Conferences

The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA, Ltd, Singapore is announcing its Annual Conference (postponed from 2020) to take place in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday, 1. December 2022.

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA, Dubai, UAE is announcing its Annual Conference (postponed from 2020) to take place in Dubai on Tuesday, 6. December 2022 (during Big5 exhibition).

Calls for Papers for both conferences are available at drymix.info, both expire on 30 September 2022. Details on locations and activities will be published in the next Newsletter.

6. MC-Bauchemie Expands in Ghana and India

MC-Bauchemie Ghana Ltd of Accra, Ghana, subsidiary of MC-Bauchemie Group of Bottrop, Germany, has recently opend its new facility in Accra, Ghana. The site includes a production facility, a training center, a laboratory, a warehouse, logistics and office space. From their start in 2017 with only 2 employees, MC-Bauchemie Ghana has been growing since – the producer of construction chemical products now employs 40 people and offers more than 30 products, using more than 75% local raw materials. Expansion is also taking place in India: MC-Bauchemie India opened their new production site in Halol (near Vadodra, Gujarat) with a ritual ceremony in April. The new site (8.500 sq.m.) features production plants for drymix mortars, concrete admixtures and polymers/resins. An investment value was not given by MC Bauchemie. The R&D lab in Accra was partially financed by the Federal Republic of Germany.

7. Blackburn Chemicals Announces Powder Production Expansion

Blackburn Chemicals Limited, Blackburn, UK, has announced a substantial investment in a new production plant for dry defoamers and shrinkage reducing agents for the use in drymix applications (amongst others). The total investment will be approximately 6,9 mio Euro and includes a new plot of land directly next to the current Blackburn location, increasing the total site from 22,000 sq.m. to 30,000 sq.m. The first phase will already be completed by September 2022 doubling the current output. The second phase will be finished by 2024 and will increase capacity further fourfold. The new plants are of modular design, so capacity can be added in fixed increments if needed.

8. Arkema Acquires Permoseal, South Africa

Arkema SA, Colombes France, mother company of Bostik, has recently completed the acquisition of South-African drymix mortar and adhesives manufacturer Permoseal Cape Town. Permoseal (established in 1949, Alcolin Brand) had a licensing agreement already with Bostik (since 1999). The company manufactures tile adhesives, grouts, other drymix mortars and industrial adhesives for the Do-it-Yourself, retail and wholesale channels in southern Africa. A transaction value was not given by either party.
