Remembering Fritz Stotmeister

The founder of Sto SE & Co. KGaA, Stühlingen, Germany, Fritz Stotmeister, has recently passed away at the age of 94. After WW II he entered his father's company Cement- und Kalkwerk Weizen Stotmeister & Cie. In the early 1950ies he licensed a pastous - organically modified and ready to use - render, which was sold in the famous yellow bucket. Under his leadership, Sto developed from a regional manufacturer of renders and paints to a globally active player with focus on coatings and External Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS, since 1964!) with more than 5.700 employees. The yellow bucket can still be seen on workmen's trucks and on jobsites all around the world.

With our admiration to his achievements, our deepest condolences go to his family, his friends and his colleagues who had the privilege of being companions on his path to success.

1. Changed: Hygiene Policy at Live Events Organized by drymix.info

With the Covid situation changing constantly, we have  adjusted our hygiene policy for live events, which will now be based on the local situation and the respective local requirements and regulations. In many areas, Covid restrictions have been eased or even waived completely, but in any case we do recommend to generally wear a face mask while being together in our meetings and conferences indoors.

2. SEADMA-PPM Meeting in Kuala Lumpur Last Week: PPM Is Resuming Operations

On 26. April 2022, The Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer’s Association (Perkumpulan Pengilang Mortar Pra-Bancuh Malaysia – PPM) has re-started its association work in Malaysia with a first meeting in Kuala Lumpur after a 2-years-Covid-break. SEADMA-PPM, founded in 2017 (celebrating 5th Anniversary this year!) is the Malaysia Chapter of The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA Ltd, Singapore. 10 members of PPM met at Hilton KL Sentral.

After a short summary by President Kenny Wong (S3, Johor), Leo presented the financial situation of SEADMA PPM. After that, discussion points included an update on mergers/acquisitions, personnel changes during the last (lost) years, the market share of drymix mortars versus traditional jobsite mixtures in Malaysia, the (re-) establishing of SEADMA PPM as a competent partner to National Bodies in Malaysia (e.g. Construction Industry Development Board CIDB, the Malaysian Public Works Department (Jabatan Kerja Raya JKR), Master Builders Association Malaysia MBAM (contractor body) and Malaysia National Home Buyer's Association HBA. The members of SEADMA PPM decided on several measures to increase and promote the use of drymix mortars in Malaysia. Also, a thorough review of existing standards and introduction of new ones was decided upon. In the current situation, the Malaysia market suffers under three main factors: the reluctance to end jobsite mixing, the lack of skilled and unskilled labor (immigration regulations were tough in the past two years) and the non-comprehension of the advantages of establishing and enforcing standards. A lot of work for SEADMA PPM. But first of all, everybody was happy re-unite and that a physical meeting was possible at all.

SEADMA PPM could also welcome three new members: Master Materials and Shijiro & Vivo Raiser (see also below) had joined earlier in 2022, during the meeting, Stärken AAC decided to join, too. Welcome all to SEADMA PPM, this is a great signal for our re-start.

3. Mexico City, 21. June 2022: the 4th Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting

Our next meeting for drymix mortar experts from all over Central America and the Carribean will take place in Mexico City on 21. June 2022 – finally live and in-person again (after so many years)! The Call for Papers has just ended the detailed program will be published in a special Newsletter this month. Sponsors so far include Dow, Evonik, Haver&Boecker, Imerys, J. 4. Istanbul, 15. 9.22: 7th Central South European Drymix Mortar Conference cedmmc7

The 7th Central South European Drymix Mortar Conference cedmmc7 takes place at magnificent Çırağan Palace (Kempinski Hotel) right on the Bosporus in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursdaym 15.  September 2022. cedmmc7 is the place to be for drymix mortar and cement industry experts from Central Europe and Asia Minor! The Call for Papers is running until 15. June, we do also encourage drymix mortar manufacturers and institutional scientists to report about their recent developments. We expect drymix mortar manufacturers and raw material suppliers as well as researchers, state officials, architects, consultants, developers and contractors, so do not miss this opportunity. The post event highlight will be our traditional dinner cruise on the Bosporus, we will board the yacht from Kempinski Hotel's own jetty.

5. Shijiru & Vivo Raiser Joins SEADMA PPM as Member

The Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer’s Association (Perkumpulan Pengilang Mortar Pra-Bancuh Malaysia – PPM, a chapter of SEADMA) is proud to announce, that Shijiru& Vivo Raiser has recently joined the association. Shijiru & Vivo Raiser, previously known as T&G Marketing is based in Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. The company is a manufacturer and applicator for cement additives, skim coat, render, tiles adhesives and cemetitious waterproofing.

6. Imerys Intensifies Calcium Carbonate Mining in Sylacauga, Alabama

Imerys SA of Paris, France has announced a large capacity increase in its Sylacauga, Alabama, USA mining operation for Calcium Carbonate. According to Imerys major investments are planned in operations security, de-bottlenecking, reduction of energy consumption, automation and the installation of new processing equipment at Sylacauga, one of the largest marble deposits of the world. Imerys expects to double its capacity with this bundle of measures. The completion date and investment value was not disclosed.
