1. MEDMA Re-Launch Workshops, 23. and 24.1.22 Dubai: New Schedule

As announced earlier, The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA (an Association licensed by Dubai Chamber) is inviting the relevant players of the drymix mortar industry for the re-launch of MEDMA in the UAE. In order to reflect the different focus of members (=drymix mortar manufacturers) and partners (= suppliers of raw materials and equipment, distributors) we have decided to split the re-launch into two brainstorming sessions:

MEDMA partners meet on Sunday, 23. Jan 2022, 14:00 to 16:30

MEDMA members meet on Monday, 24. Jan 2022, 15:30 to 18:00

We meet at the new seat of MEDMA, at One Central (right next to Dubai World Trade Center DWTC, near Emirates Towers). Both workshops will be moderated by Leo. There will be a casual dinner on Monday evening (location, time and sponsors tbd.).

Invitation to this exclusive event are being sent out by mail this week. It is free of charge. Due to space restrictions and CoVid precautions, we can admit only one delegate per company, sorry. RSVP is absolutely mandatory.

2. 6th MORTAR CONVENTION from 22. to 24. March 2022:  a Live Event Online

The 6th MORTAR CONVENTION is held as Live Event Online, on 22.3.22 (for Australia/New Zealand), 23.3.22 (for Eastern Asia and South East Asia SEA) and on 24.3.22 (for India, Middle East, Africa and Europe). The compact new format will feature scientific lectures, product presentations, company videos as well as live interviews and networking sessions (contest!). During three days a custom tailored program for the three different regions of the world will be presented.

drymix.info is inviting the drymix mortar industry to submit topics to be presented during 6th MORTAR CONVENTION (6MC) from 22. to 24. March 2022. Book your Package now and reach half of the world! 3. 7th American Drymix Mortar Conference admmc7, Toronto, ON, Canada, April 28, 2022

The 7th American Drymix Mortar Conference admmc7 and Industry Showcase will take place at splendid Prince Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada on April 28, 2022. Our Call for Papers has recently expired, our Technical Chairman, Prof. Dr. Johann Plank of Technische Universität München is currently evaluating the lecturing proposals and product presentations. The program will be announced in our next Newsletter. Let us remind you of our drymix.info CoVid-19 safety policy: Certified Proof of vaccination or booster shot during the last 6 month prior to any of our events is mandatory! In order to protect our delegates (and also to support their decision to come), we have decided to announce the following strategy against infections: Delegates and speakers must be fully vaccinated and provide certified proof of such vaccination (the vaccination requirement also applies to delegates that have recovered from a CoVid-19 infection). The completed vaccination can not be no older than 6 months, which means that delegates with older vaccinations must have obtained their booster shot within 6 months before the respective event. Local, state, territorial laws and regulations to vaccination status may apply, we will strictly adhere to those and keep you updated.

4. 4th Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting, Mexico City, June 21, 2022

drymix.info, the International Community for Drymix Mortars is inviting drymix mortar experts from throughout Central America and the Caribbean to join the 4th Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting. The live, in-person event will take place on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in Mexico City. Our experienced team Meliza and Carlos will support us again in the organization and registration processes of this event. A Call for Papers has already been issued, it will expire on 15. March 2022. It is available upon request at drymix.info. We encourage all our supporters to book early - the drymix mortar community of Central America needs your support now.

Admission to the 4th Central American Drymix Mortar Meeting, Mexico City, 21. June 2022 is 390 Euro, reduced to 290 Euro for drymix.info partners. Drymix Mortar Manufacturers pay only 190 Euro. Pre registration by e-mail is already possible by e-mail. Our drymix.info CoVid-19 safety policy applies.

5. Sievert Commissions New Drymix Mortar Plant in Mamming, Germany

After a construction period of 11 months, Sievert AG of Osnabrück, Germany has recently started up its new, fully automated drymix mortar plant in Mamming-Rosenau, Lower Bavaria, Germany. The tower type plant is 45 m high and has a nameplate capacity of 100.000 t/a (single shift). The entire investment cost more than 10 mio Euro and was done jointly with Sievert's long-standing partner for aggregates Karl Mossandl GmbH & Co., Dingolfing, Germany. It includes 14.000 sq m of enclosed production, logistics and storage space. The new plant will produce Sievert's full range of drymix mortar products, namely renders, masonry mortars and adhesives branded QuickMix, Akurit, Tubag and Strasser.

6. Dyckerhoff Prizes 2021 go to Dr. Lei Lei, TU Munich and Dr. Inka Mai, TU Braunschweig

The Dres. Edith and Klaus Dyckerhoff Foundation, Wiesbaden, Germany has awarded Dr. Lei Lei, Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Dr. Inka Mai of Technical University of Braunschweig (both Germany) with the 2021 Klaus Dyckerhoff Prize for Young Scientists. Dr. Lei, junior professor at Prof. Johann Plank's group was acclaimed for her work on PCE superplasticizers in alkali-activated slag systems, she is currently working on her habilitation focussing on PCEs for environmentally friendly binders. Dr. Mai is part of Prof. Dirk Lowke's group and excelled in the development of new technologies for 3D printing of mortars (e.g. shotcrete printing, large particle bed 3D printing). The awards will be handed over during 66. Ulmer BetonTage, scheduled to take place from 21. to 23. June 2022.

7. Arkema to Acquire Permoseal (South Africa)

Arkema Plc, Colombes, France, mother company of Bostik has announced that it will acquire Permoseal Pty Ltd of Cape Town, South Africa. Permoseal is active in most adhesive applications in South Africa and neighboring countries (tradename Alcolin) with e.g. woodworking, packaging construction (also drymix mortars) and do-it-yourself (DIY). Permoseal also caters to the wall and floor preparation, renovation and waterproofing applications. It operates two plants in South Africa and is also exclusive distributor of Arkema's Bostik and Evo-Stick brands for retail in South Africa. So it can be assumed, that the acquisition if intended to strengthen Bostik's business in the Sub-Saharan region. In 2021, Permoseal's sales are estimated at 44 mio Euro. A transaction value was not given by either party, the deal is still subject to approval by antitrust authorities, it is expected to be finalized in the second-quarter 2022.

8. American Securities Acquires Hexion

Late last year, Hexion Holdings Corporation, Columbus, OH, USA was acquired by private equity firm American Securities LLC, New York City, NY, USA. Hexion, an internationally operating thermoset resin and specialty chemicals company, had recently spun off its epoxy business to Westlake Chemical Corp., Houston, TX, USA. Now, American Securities picks up the remaining industrial operations of Hexion, which includes important monomer groups for emulsion polymerization, namely vinyl esters of versatic acid (tradename Veova). These products are used in emulsions for coatings and redispersible powders to improve flexibility, hydrophobicity and UV resistance.

Hexion reported year-end 2020 sales of 2.200 mio Euro (USD 2.500 mio), deducting the epoxies which went to Westlake Chemical, the net sales for the remaining divisions were 1.200 mio euro (USD 1.400 mio) in 2020. American Securities will pay 26,37 Euro in cash (USD 30,00) per share, which represents a 15% premium over the share value at the date of the announcement. The transaction is still subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close within the first half of 2022.
