1. idmmc8, Munich, 4.10.21: United again - Finally

Our first live event - after the Australian Drymix Mortar Meeting in Sydney on 5. March 2020 - was The Eighth International Drymix Mortar Conference and Industry Showcase idmmc8, which took place last week here in Munich, at a fabulous location: Sugar Mountain is an industrial estate, the former precast concrete plant of Katzenberger Beton. It has recently been re-arranged as a lofty event space. Our 100 delegates fit in nicely and we decorated the stage to resemble our drymix mortar living room (see foto by Rainer Algars). The evening before at historic Wirtshaus im Fraunhofer was sponsored by BYK-Chemie, Calucem and Schleibinger Geräte, thanks a lot!

Our Technical Chairman was Prof. Dr. Johann Plank of Technische Universität München TUM, he was assisted by Rainer Algars (formerly Maxit/Saint Gobain Weber) and Prof. Dr. Andreas Gerdes, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT, who led out panel discussion. This panel dealt with formulating drymix mortars sustainably and consisted of Didier Dru, Sika/Parex-Lanko, Dr. Christoph Hahner, DAW/Alsecco and Lionel Bertrand, Saint Gobain Weber. Program contributions came from Blackburn, BYK-Chemie, Caltra, Ecocem, Haver&Boecker, Imerys, Mapei, Omya, Organik Kimya, Pagel Spezialbeton, TUM, Wacker Chemie and ZaaK Technologies - thanks a lot for your support, dear contributors. Our HyDry Service allowed those that could not come to follow the four sessions online, although short notice, over 20 delegates joined this streaming offer.

Here are some anonymized statements from our delegates and contributors:
“To meet alive and in person is so much different from just looking on a screen”.
“Everybody here in flesh and blood - what a relief!”
"It is so important to be networking with real persons."
“Finally! I feel like I am out of prison.”

We will publish pictures of the event soon on our website.

2. Over 100 Delegates! Egypt Drymix Mortar Meeting, 20. October 2021 in Cairo

Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, drymix.info, Munich, Germany and The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA, Dubai, United Arab Emirates invite to the 10th Workshop on Oilfield and Construction Chemistry with Focus on Drymix Mortars (Egypt Drymix Mortar Meeting) on Wednesday, 20. October 2021 in Cairo. Our Technical Chairwoman Prof. Dr. Ghada Bassioni will be proud to welcome over 100 Delegates to this important symposium. All relevant players in the Egyptian drymix mortar and construction chemicals industry have confirmed attendance, and of course students and faculty of ASU and important research institutions and government bodies. After the event, Calucem, Evonik, m-tec and Wacker Chemie invite all delegates to a romantic cruise on the Nile with a festive Gala Dinner (bus transfer included).

Admission to the Egypt Drymix Mortar Meeting is 280 Euro, reduced to 180 Euro for drymix.info, SEADMA and MEDMA members. There is a special admission for drymix mortar manufacturers which is only 90 Euro per person (no further deductions applicable to this special offer). Registration with credit card payment (Visa or Mastercard only) is still possible at www.drymix.info.

3. MEDMA and SEADMA: Annual Meetings Postponed into 2022

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA (a Dubai Association) and The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA, Ltd., Singapore, have jointly announced that they regretfully have to postpone their annual meetings into 2022. The persisting pandemic and complex travel restrictions have led the associations to this decision.

Large meetings just don't seem advisable at this point in time. However, small meetings are planned: MEDMA starts re-forming (individual meetings already on 18.11.21 in Dubai) and already co-hosts the 10th Workshop on Oilfield and Construction Chemistry with Focus on Drymix Mortars in Cairo (see item 2), and SEADMA plans a casual dinner with supporters in Singapore in Mid-November (details in the next Newsletter).

The re-launch of MEDMA as Dubai Association will start with an industry meeting in December (details in the next Newsletter). In a broad forum with industry players, vision, targets and short-range goals will be discussed.

4. Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2022 and admmc7, Toronto, ON, end-April 2022

drymix.info is calling for articles for publication in the upcoming Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2022. The book will be published on occasion of The Seventh American Drymix Mortar Conference admmc7 in Toronto, ON, Canada, which is scheduled for end April or early May 2022. For admmc7, a Call for Papers has been published, it is available at drymix.info and expires 15. December 2021. Of course, we need the support of sponsors for this first event in the Americas, too, please get in touch with us.

5. Imerys is Increasing Prices for HAC, Metakaolins and Functional Aggregates

Imerys SA, Paris, France has announced a global price increase for the segments refractory, abrasives and construction. The prices for High Alumina Cements (HAC), Metakaolins and Functional Aggregates will be increased by 15 to 17% effective 1. January 2022 or as customer contracts allow. The company cites the rising raw materials and energy costs as well as the complex and costly logistics for this measure.

6. Hexion to Separate into Two Independent Companies

Hexion, Columbus, Ohio, USA has announced it will strategically re-structure and form two independent new companies: “Hexion Holdings” wil maintain the company’s adhesives, Versatic Acid and derivatives product lines, and “Hexion Coatings and Composites (US) Inc.(HCC)” cater to Hexion's epoxy-based coatings and composites products. In 2020 , the Hexion Holdings part generated a turnover of 2.200 mio euro, HCC reached close to 1.000 mio Euro. According to Hexion, the spun-off of HCC will be renamed at a later date. Existing shareholders will obtain shares in both companies.
