1. 4th MORTAR CONVENTION: Post Event Report

Here is a short review of our 4th MORTAR CONVENTION, which took place on 20. October 2020 as Live Event Online. The event took place only once, so we covered only what we call the East Segments. The majority of delegates came from Australia/NZ, SEA, Eastern Asia, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East, Africa and Europe (from over 40 Nations) - but we also had registrations from the Americas, keen on watching the event in our post-event viewing section on drymix.info, which started last week.

Here are the empirics of the  4th MORTAR CONVENTION: We had 456 pre registered (paid) delegates, of which 365 completed their profiles on our platform. 295 delegates actively participated in discussions, chats and industry directory. 49,3% of our delegates were drymix mortar manufacturers, 10,7% came from distributors and 34,3% from raw materials and/or equipment suppliers. All delegates used the session booking tool 1.176 times, minimum attendance to each session was around 200. Also our delegates exchanged 5.300 (!) personal messages in our person-to-person chats.

62% of the delegates joined the event from their home (-office), 38% from their workplace. 15% used their desktop computer, 77% their laptop and 8% their mobile phone. 82% plan to attend future live events online by drymix.info, 18% marked „maybe“ (nobody marked „no“, thanks a lot ;-).

2. Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2021: Call for Entries

The team at drymix.info has already started producing the Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2021. This publication is the only one entirely focussed on drymix mortar technology. The 2021 issue has a significantly higher relevance and importance than in „normal“ times: a multitude of events for our industry  - not only organized by drymix.info, MEDMA or SEADMA - have been cancelled due to the current pandemic situation. So our Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2021 is the only means of physical interaction for our industry at this point in time. drymix.info has decided to mail the 2021 issue to the subscribers and also fulfill individual orders.

Articles, advertorials or full-color, full page advertisement are accepted until 30.11. 2020, the usual publication fees apply.

Needless to say that we here at drymix.info really rely on your support in these times, too.

3. 5th MORTAR CONVENTION on 23. March 2021 for All Time Zones

drymix.info, the International Community for Drymix Mortars is announcing the 5th MORTAR CONVENTION, taking place as Live Event Online on 23. March 2021 for all time zones. The event takes place during „ECS Week“ and replaces our 8th International Drymix Mortar Conference idmmc8, which had to be re-scheduled (probably into September 2021). All lectures proposed for idmmc8 already will be included in the 5th MORTAR CONVENTION, we will be in touch with the lecturers this and next week.

Please get your copy of the Call for Papers and contact us immediately if you wish to participate and actively support the 5th MORTAR CONVENTION.

6. Hot off the Press: First House Printed with 3D Mortars in Germany

The Building Ministry of Northrhine-Westphalia, Düsseldorf, has announced the construction of Germany's first house using 3D Mortar Printing Technology: a stand-alone residential building with two floors providing 160 sq. m. of living space. It features three-shelled 3D printed walls, which are being filled with insulation media.

The builder-owner is HOUS3DRUCK UG, the architectural design came from Waldemar Korte, both Beckum, Germany. The work was carried out by a consortium led by Peri Group, Weißenhorn, Germany, that consisted of Peri, Italcementi of Bergamo, Italy (a subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, Leimen, Germany), Cobod of Copenhagen, Denmark (in which Peri holds a stake since 2018) and Schießl Gehlen Sodeikat Engineers of Munich, Germany. The 3D printing mortar was developed by the HeidelbergCement subsidiary Italcementi (branded as i.tech 3D). Cobod is providing the 3D portal printer and Schießl Gehlen Sodeikat supported the planning and execution of the project. Their layer design already provides for channels to accomodate electrical and (water) pipe installation inside the finished walls. Corresponding approval tests were carried out by the Technical University of Munich TUM.

“We are very confident that construction printing will become increasingly important in certain market segments over the coming years and has considerable potential." said Thomas Imbacher, Innovation & Marketing Director at Peri. It is expected that the process of 3D printing with mortars will accelerate the speed of completion of a building, while at the same time minimizing manpower consumption and reducing the overall cost of building. For Peri Group, known for their scaffolding and concrete formwork expertise, the step into 3D Mortar Printing is a strategic and logical one: this technology does not require formwork and only a limited amount of scaffolding when finishing off. The ministry is supporting the works is supporting it with a grant of 200.000 Euro.
