2. Münzing Breaks Ground for New Production Unit

Münzing Chemie GmbH, Abstatt, Germany is investing into a new production unit for wax and polymer emulsions. The groundbreaking ceremony took place recently in Elsteraue, Germany. Münzing's 20.000 sq m plot there is part of the integrated “verbund” location Industriepark Zeitz. The new plant will produce water-based wax emulsions and specialty additives such as defoamers in powder form, completion is expected towards the end of 2021. Münzing also installs its own combined heat and power plant together with a complex re-gaining system of process energies. It is Münzing's goal to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions at Elsteraue by 50% when compared with a conventional production unit of that size. The company is already operating a plant there for the production of industrial waxes in powder form for the construction materials and building coatings industries. The investment volume and expected capacities were not disclosed.

3. Sto Maintains Business Projection until 2020

Sto SE & Co. KGaA of Stühlingen, Germany has recently reconfirmed its projections for the course of 2020. While Sto's turnover remained on last year's level until June (665 mio Euro), the summer months were definitely heavily impacted from the economical climate change following the Corona Pandemic. Good weather and business in Germany were the reason for the strong spring and early summer, while the corona impact in important markets such as France, Italy and Spain caused the foreign turnover to drop from 57% to 52% in that period. However, considering the fact that the Pandemic hit the European markets in sequence and that some markets already are on the way of recovery, Sto is maintaining its prognosis for 2020 (1.490 mio Euro, + 6,6% over 2019). According to Sto, the influences of the pandemic are hard to calculate, on the one hand, there are government subsidies and support for the construction industry considered as encouragement in Germany and many European Nations, on the other hand yet another shut-down in fall or winter is also possible, with strong impact on building activities throughout Europe.

4. Wacker Increases Prices for Certain Polymer Dispersions in North America

The Polymer Division of Wacker Chemie AG, Munich, Germany,  plans to raise prices for vinyl acetate-ethylene (brand name Vinnapas) and ethylene-vinyl chloride-based copolymer (brand name Vinnol) dispersions in North America. The price increase of up to 10% is to become effective on 16. October 2020 for customers in Canada and the US. Wacker Chemie attributes the necessity of a price increase to higher logistics and raw material sourcing costs.
