1. cedmmc7 in Istanbul Postponed into 2021

The Seventh Central and South European Drymix Mortar Conference cedmmc7, planned to take place in September 2020 must unfortunately be postponed into 2021. drymix.info really regrets this step, but our German Federal Government has announced yesterday that it will maintain travel warnings until 31. August 2020 for Nations outside Europe. The new date for cedmmc7 will be announced in one of our next Newsletters.

Given the fact that DMG World Media has announced last week that The Big 5 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is being postponed (planned for November 2020, moved to 12 to 15. September 2021), all our scheduled events in Fall of 2020 are under scrutiny. It is unclear if we can travel and host events with local restrictions in place and quarantine requirements varying from country to country. More likely you will see special (small) Live Events Online from us, focussed on specific application topics such as cement replacement in drymix mortars, machine application of mortars (renders, screeds), the revisions of EN 12004 for cementitious tile adhesives and the like.

We will also keep you posted about the activities of The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA e.V. and The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA, Ltd. - of course all above applies to their annual conferences, too.

2. 3rd Mortar Convention on 7. May 2020: Post-Event Report

Our 3rd Mortar-Convention took place on 7. May 2020 as Live Event Online. Ferdinand Leopolder and his team moderated two segments (EAST: 6 hours 49 minutes and WEST: 6 hours and 40 minutes) live from 5:00 in the morning (Munich time) to 22:30 in the evening. The event also featured live interviews with Troy Hogan, Melbourne, Tim Tan, Singapore, Prof. Dr. Johann Plank, Munich, York Seaton, Kingston, Meliza Benitez, Mexico City and Charles Cornman, Greater Los Angeles Area.

Participation was vivid all around the globe. Over 650 Delegates were registered, they were from 51 Nations. The strongest presence came from the US, followed by Germany, the UAE, Brasil, Australia and Indonesia. A total of 171 delegates actually joined the EAST segment, the strongest session there had 142 delegates. A total of 302 delegates joined the WEST segment, the strongest session there had 255 delegates.

Our post-event questionnaire showed great appreciation and support for the entire event: rating 8,42/10  (general event score). We are super happy that it happened with just a few little problems. Especially Leo's score in his new position as an online moderator score was outstanding:rating 8,85/10. We are still overwhelmed by your positive and productive feedback.

A total of 139 questions were collected in the chat, 51 questions were sent directly to the individual lecturers for answering. After each lecture, the delegates had the possibility to rate that very lecture, this feature was used by over 60% of all delegates. Last but not least your provided post-event feedback is essential for us to design and organize new Live Events Online, that fit your demands and needs. We know, there is still room for improvement and we are working hard to deliver you the best content. You asked for time for Q&A’s, more live discussions and interviews, longer Breaks, Breakout-rooms, just to name a few points. We will consider all options and come back to you with an even more attractive online event.

From the collected post-event questionnaires, an overwhelming 90,6 % asked us to do Live Events Online again in the future. This makes us very proud and keen to think up the next one (considering the many cancellations maybe already this fall (see item 1 above)

3. For 3rd Mortar Convention Delegates only: Videos and PDFs on drymix.info

First of all our apologies: it took a while to create the possibility for our registered delegates to (re-) view the contributions and to download presentations as .pdf. Almost all of our contributors have given their ok to present the videos for a choice audience again. But we did not want to float those precious materials just anywhere in the internet. This is why we created a username and password protected zone on our website where only registered delegates can see those materials. This took time: As of today, 21 videos and 10 PDFs are available online.

In the next few days, registered delegates will get an instruction on how to view/download those materials. Please tell us if this works, this is new for us and we need your feedback.

4. Sika Takes over Modern Waterproofing, Egypt

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland will take over Modern Waterproofing Group, Cairo, Egypt and integrates it into its subsidiary Sika Egypt. The roots of Modern Waterproofing are reaching back to 1953, in 1999 the group was formed and named by Dr. Walid Gamaleldin. The company has specialized on building protection such as bituminous membranes, filaments, thermal insulation materials and waterstops. Modern Waterproofing operates mainly at a strategically well located plant in Badr City, close to Cairo. The company reported sales of 24 mio Euro in 2019.
