1. Russian Mortar Days 2020, 30. January 2020, Moscow: Last Chance to Register

The Russian Mortar Days 2020 take place on 30. January 2020, hosted again by Moscow State Technical University MGSU. Our Technical Chairman is Prof. Dr. Andrej Pustovgar of MCU, the event is co-organized by Quintet, Saint Petersburg, Russia. In addition, MGSU is offering a lab workshop on the testing of tile adhesives on Friday, 31. January 2020 (limited to 20 delegates; separate application is mandatory, please send us an e-mail if you wish to participate). Over 90 delegates have already confirmed attendance, amongst them over 30 different drymix mortar manufacturers.

2. The 5th Australian Drymix Mortar Meeting, 5. March 2020 in Rose Hill, NSW

Drymix mortar experts from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania meet for the 5th time to exchange ideas and developments. Our 5th Australian Drymix Mortar Meeting takes place on Thursday, 5. March 2020 at Rydges Hotel Parramatta, Rose Hill (Western Sydney), NSW. We will host a Delegate welcome on Wednesday, 4. March 2020 for those who have already arrived (still looking for a sponsor for this!). Our updated program is available on our website. Contributors include Acquos (lecturer tbd.), Actemium (N. 3. Important Dates for the Drymix Mortar Community Worldwide

19. January 2020, 17:00, Wacker Dubai Silicon Oasis: MEDMA Open AGM
The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA e.V. and its Executive Committee  (EC) invites all its members, partners and interested parties to its Open Annual General Meeting (AGM). Apart from reviewing 2019, the EC will discuss actions and strategies for 2020 and beyond such as the continuation of MEDMA's successful program of expert workshops (the next one will be on concrete renovation and repair). The meeting is hosted by Wacker Chemie, thanks a lot for the hospitality and generous support. MEDMA's open AGM is free of charge (up to 2 delegates per company), but advance registration until THIS WEDNESDAY, 15. January 2020 is absolutely mandatory.

17. March 2020, Manila Polo Club: 4th Philippine Drymix Mortar Meeting
For the fourth time, The Philippine Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association PhilDMMA and The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA Ltd. are inviting drymix mortar experts for technical and personal exchange. On 18. March 2020, Worldbex, a construction materials exhibition opens its doors in Manila, too. One more reason to come! You can still submit topics for our program, our Call for Papers ends on 31. January 2020. Sponsors are of course welcome. Registration is already possible on www.drymix.info.

19. March 2020, Johor Bahru (exact location tbd.), Malaysia: Meeting of The Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association PPM.
This is a work meeting where Pertubuhan Pengilang Mortar Pra-Bancuh Malaysia (PPM) determines its strategy for 2020 and beyond. Also we will elect the successor to Kenny Wong, our Founding President (candidate applications from PPM members are welcome). Topics include the cooperation with ministries and public organisations such as the Malaysia Construction Industry Development Board CIDB. The meeting is free of charge for PPM members (advance registration mandatory by e-mail), industry observers are welcome (390 Euro, reduced for members of SEADMA or drymix.info to 290 Euro).

4. Adelaide Industrial Sands Joins drymix.info as Industrial Partner

Adelaide Industrial Sands Pty Ltd, Salisbury, Southern Australia has decided to join drymix.info as industrial partner. The company was established in 2012 as part of the Premix Concrete SA group of businesses. Adelaide Industrial Sands produces graded silica sands, gravels and specialty natural pebbles for the drymix, water filtration, and construction industries.

We warmly welcome Adelaide Industrial Sands to our community.

5. Bostik Takes over Lip Bygningsartikler

Bostik (part of Arkema, Paris France) has recently acquired LIP Bygningsartikler AS (Lip),  Nørre Åby, Denmark. Since over 50 years, Lip develops and manufactures of tile adhesives, waterproofing systems and flooring compounds. LIP employs about 50 people in Denmark and claims to operate a highly automated and carbon-neutral manufacturing plant. The turnover of Lip was 30 mio Euro in 2019. If the European Lip subsidiares in Europe (Finland, Germany, The Netherlands for BeNeLux, Norway, Sweden) are part of the package could not be determined yet. A purchase price was not disclosed by either party. Closing of the deal is expected early 2020.

6. Sievert Combines the Schwenk and quick-mix Portfolios to Form Akurit

Sievert AG of Osnabrück, Germany has annouced a re-structuring: the company is combining its activities in renders and plasters with those for External Insulation and Finishing Products (EIFS, also called ETICS in Europe). These activities were core business of daughter companies quick-mix, Osnabrück as well as Schwenk Putztechnik, Ulm Germany, which was acquired in 2015 (we reported earlier). 500 products from quick-mix and Schwenk have been combined into one single portfolio. The new business unit will be called Akurit Putztechnik. According to Hans-Jörg Seiler, product manager for rendering systems at Sievert AG, Akurit will offer four types of basic wall finishing systems (three EIFS, based on Expanded Poly Styrene EPS or mineral wool and one interior insulation system) as well as special systems for the repair, renovation and modernizing of facades.
 

7. BASF Sells its Construction Chemicals Division to Lone Star Funds

BASF SE of Ludwigshafen, Germany has recently signed an agreement to sell its construction chemicals division to Lone Star Funds, Dallas, TX, USA (we reported earlier) for 3.170 mio Euro. The transaction encompasses all employees (about 7.000), products, brands and assets with 225 locations worldwide (in over 60 Nations), including e.g. the portfolio „Master Builder's Solutions“, BASF Construction Solution GmbH in Trostberg, Germany and PCI Augsburg GmbH. The turnover of this division was 2.500 mio euro in 2018. The approval of anti trust authorities is still pending, the transaction is expected to close within the third quarter of 2020.
