1. Remembering Egon Katz de Castro

Egon Katz de Castro, was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany has recently passed away at age 98 in Alphaville (near São Paulo). In 1937, just migrated to Brasil, he was one of the founders of Argamassas Quartzolit in São Paulo. Already in 1945, Quarzolit launched its Reboquit range of renders, and later, in 1972, the very successful Cimentcola cementitious tile adhesives and grouts were presented to the market. With these and other products, Quarzolit has maintained its undisputed market leadership in Brasil up until today. Egon Katz de Castro sold Quarzolit in 1997 to Saint Gobain Weber.

Egon Katz de Castro has substantially contributed to the success of drymix mortar technology in Brasil and South America. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends, represented by his son, Ricardo.

2. Annual Meeting of the Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association PPM in Kuala Lumpur, 27. 8.19

The Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer’s Professional Association PPM (Pertubuhan Pengilang Mortar Pra-Bancuh Malaysia) convenes for its annual meeting at Le Méridien Hotel KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday 27. August 2019. The meeting will take place from 11:00 to 15:00. Discussion items are the taxation of drymix mortars (legal expertise), the introduction of PPM to Malaysian authorities such as the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) and the welcoming of new members (such as Saint Gobain Weber Malaysia).

The meeting is free of charge for registered members, industry observers are welcome at a fee (please enquire with us).

3. The Thai Chapter of SEADMA Signs MoU with TCA and SEADMA on 29.8.19

Already since 2008, The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA has collaborated with the relevant drymix mortar manufacturers in Thailand to form a local chapter. Back in 2016, SEADMA's Thai Chapter was formed. The Thailand Concrete Association (TCA) agreed to provide the means of formal organization of the SEADMA Thai Chapter in 2017 and hosts the activity since then. In the recent months, the SEADMA Thai Chapter has further organized itself and formulated a Memory of Unterstanding (MoU) with SEADMA to govern the internal relationships. In a formal ceremony, this MoU will be signed at TCA headquarters in Bangkok.

All SEADMA members as well as the Thai Chapter members are warmly invited to this ceremony. It takes place on Thursday, 29. August 2019, from 11:00 to 13:00. We will also discuss joint actions for 2019/2020 during this meeting.

4. MEDMA Oman Drymix Mortar Showcase, 7. October 2019, Muscat: Program

The Middle East Drymix Mortar Association MEDMA e.V. and Al Nimr Group invite Omani construction experts and industry peers from the GCC region to its first Oman Drymix Mortar Showcase. The event takes place on 7. October 2019 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Center in Muscat. This event is being hosted and promoted by Al Nimr Group, the organizers of Infra Oman, which takes place right then and there (actually from 7. to 9. October 2019).

5. Sixth Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference, São Paulo, Brasil, 7.11.19: Program

For the sixth time, drymix.info invites to the Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference ladmmc six (Sexta Conferência Latino Americana de Argamassas ladmmc six). The conference takes place on Thursday, 7. November 2019, at Espaço Transatlântico, São Paulo, Brasil, 7.11. 2019. The Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2019 will be distributed to all delegates.

On 6. November 2019, we plan an excursion for interested delegates to a project of Cidades sem fome, an urban harvesting site. The founder of this NGO, Hans Dieter Tremp will guide us. Advance registration is mandatory, we need to arrange for bus transfer. This excursion is free of charge, we hope we can convince you to make a donation to this excellent initiative (drymix.info will donate 1.000 Euro from the proceeds of ladmmc six).

6. Safic-Alcan Joins drymix.info as a Distribution Partner

Safic-Alcan SA, Paris La-Defense, France has decided to join drymix.info as a Distribution Partner. Founded in 1847 as a trading company, Safic-Alcan is today a globally active specialty chemicals distributor. Safic-Alcan has 25 offices and warehouses located in Europe, Middle East, Asia and America. The company is supplying resins, pigments and additives to the Coatings, Inks, Adhesives and Construction Materials industries. Safic-Alcan also develops own branded products for drymix mortar industries. Sales revenues for 2018 amounted to 611 mio Euro, Safic-Alcan employs 585 people worldwide.We warmly welcome Safic-Alcan Group to our community.

7. Sika Increases Capacity for Drymix Mortars in Serbia

Sika AG, Baar, Switzerland, has recently increased its production capacity for drymix mortars at its existing plant in Simanovci, Serbia (near Novi Belgrade). The company also added a new warehousing facility. Apart from producing mortars for Serbia, the Simanovci plant is central manufacturing location for the surrounding nations Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Hungary and Bulgaria. According to Sika, Serbia itself offers a multitude of chances in the field of infrastructure repair and development, from sewers to road, rail and supporting structures. International investments are soaring also into residential and light commercial real estate e.g. the Belgrade Waterfront project.

8. Blackstone Acquires European Distribution Business of CRH

Blackstone Group LP, New York City, NV, USA has recently acquired the European distribution and retail operations of CRH, Dublin, Ireland. According to CRH, the European business of its division General Builders Merchants, including its heating and sanitary business was sold for 1.640 mio Euro. The German operations, branded Bauking, are part of the deal. The transaction is still subject to the usual regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019.
