BAU is back in Munich, so we are arranging again for our drymix.info Casual Evening which will take place at Hofbräukeller on 16. January 2019, 19:00 – sponsors are still wanted!

The same applies for BAUMA 2019, our drymix.info Casual Evening in that week will take place on 10. April 2019, at Hofbräukeller – sponsors are still wanted!

6. Sabic Effort to Gain Large Share in Clariant Delayed; Interest of Saudi Aramco in Sabic Shares

In January 2018, the Board of Clariant AG, Muttenz, Switzerland had announced that Saudi Arabia Basic Industries (Sabic), Riyadh will take over 24,99 % of its shares and thus become largest single stockholder in Clariant. The shares were sold by activist investors 40 North and White Tale. The transaction however could not be carried out until today, the delay comes from the lack of approval by several anti-trust authorities (amongst them Mexico and Brasil). The delay seriously postpones strategic talks between Sabic and the Clariant management.

70 % of Sabic is owned by the Saudi Public Interest Fund (PIF, a Government Agency), Riyadh, the rest of the Sabic Shares are being traded at the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul). Recently petro-giant Saudi Aramco, Dammam, Saudi Arabia has announced interest to acquire a controlling stake in Sabic. In the course of this bid, Sabic was valued at 85.600 mio Euro. For Aramco, the step would be a forward integration, “making the company less vulnerable to changes in the oil prices” as Amin Nasser, CEO of Saudi Aramco said.

7. Uzin Takes over Application Tools Manufacturer Pajarito, Announces Price Increase

Uzin Utz AG (Uzin), Ulm, Germany has recently taken over the tools manufacturer Korbach Werkzeug Co. GmbH & Co. KG (Pajarito), Mettmann, Germany. Pajarito is focussed on producing professional application equipment for specialized craftsmen such as tile layers, flooring experts and painters. „(by integrating) ... the core competencies of Pajarito ... we are closing a gap in our portfolio ... for professional craftsmen”,  says Julian Utz, member of the board of Uzin. Uzin takes over all three entities forming Pajarito today: Pajarito Werkzeug GmbH, Korbach Werkzeug Co. GmbH & Co. KG and Pajarito Warenhandelsgesellschaft mbH (all Mettmann) entirely. Pajarito will continue to operate under its established brands and independently. Dirk Willing, former CEO of Pajarito, will continue to support Pajarito on a consulting basis. Julian Utz and Jürgen Rehmann will lead the activity, they are also in charge of machinery-subsidiary Wolff.

Uzin has also recently announced a 3% to 5% price increase on all products effective 1. January 2019. The company cites higher raw material and transportation cost for this measure.

8. Sika Germany Announces Price Increase

Sika Deutschland GmbH, Stuttgart, Germany will raise its prices for products from all divisions effective 1. February 2019 by 4% to 10%. According to Sika, shortage of several raw materials on the global market drives the prices, as well as increased personnel and logistics cost (especially tolls for roads)

9. Karl Bachl Takes over Liesborn EPS Plant from Hirsch Servo

The polymer materials processing division of Karl Bachl GmbH & Co. KG, Röhrnbach, Germany (Karl Bachl Kunststoffverarbeitung) has recently taken over the expanded polystyrene (EPS) plant in Liesborn, Germany from Hirsch Servo Gruppe, Glanegg, Austria. The move comes as one of the many consolidation changes in this industry (we reported earlier).
