drymix.info Newsletter 200/2017; ISSN Number 1613-0111; 18. October 2017

Opening Remark: This is our 200th drymix.info Newsletter - since 2003 we are researching and reporting information about and from the drymix mortar world. The first drymix.info Newsletter was an invitation for our first meeting in Nürnberg, it came out in March 2003, the second one followed in May and had news about the use of powdered silicates in mortars, the Celanese takeover of the redispersible powder production in Hoechst, Germany (tradename Mowilith) from Clariant, the new gypsum line of products from Atlas/Poland, the new grout line of Sopro/Germany and a background report on the international players dominating the drymix mortar market in Australia. It went out to over 270 e-mail addresses. Since then we have reported monthly, compiled a total of 1.500 individual newsitems, our Newsletter goes to 9.544 drymix mortar experts worldwide.

1. Registrations Strong for ladmmc five, São Paulo, Brasil, 26. October 2017

Over 100 drymix mortar experts have already registered for the 5th Latin American Drymix Mortar Conference ladmmc five, taking place at Espaço Transatlântico, São Paulo, Brasil, on 26. October 2017. The program is available online in portugues and english, there will also be simultaneous translation in both languages.

drymix.info Club: Delegates can join us for a casual rodizio evening on Wednesday, 25. October 2017, 19:30 at Fogo de Châo Vila Olimpia, but please reserve with us THIS WEEK by e-mail (everyone pays on his own).

Admission to ladmmc five is 310 Euro per person, reduced for members of drymix.info to 270 Euro, drymix mortar Manufacturers pay only 190 Euro per person. We also offer the possibility to pay via bank transfer in Brasil. Concerning group admissions for sponsors, please enquire with us.

2. 12th Annual SEADMA Conference in Nusajaya Johor, Malaysia, 23.11.17

The 12th Annual SEADMA Conference takes place at Jen Hotel Puteri Harbor, Nusajaya Johor, Malaysia (just across the second link from Singapore) on Thursday, 23. November 2017, from 11:00 to 19:00. The newly formed Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association MDMMA (we reported earlier) and SEADMA are proud to welcome the international delegates. Traditionally, SEADMA is also conducting its Annual General Assembly (AGM) during this event. The MEDMA/SEADMA Technical Bulletin 12 will be published on this occasion.

drymix.info Club: we are planning a casual get-together on the harbour after the conference on 20:00, please reserve with us by e-mail when you register for the conference (everyone pays on his own).

We are also arranging a shuttle service from Singapore (leaving early on 23. November, returning in the morning on 24. November), please tell us at registration if you wish to book this service. If you travel in your own car, please realize, that crossing the Singapore/Malaysia border may take upt to one hour, depending on traffic.

3. Sharjah, 26.11.17: The Middle East Drymix Mortar Conference + excursion to ICCX + Banquet by Sharjah Research Academy

The (12th) Middle East Drymix Mortar Conference takes place on 26. November 2017 from 09:00 until 16:30  on the splendid campus of University of Sharjah (Men's Engineering College). Our sponsors are Actemium, Berolan, Conmix, Dow, Frigmaires, Haver & Boecker, JK White, Kerneos, Mapei, Poraver, Schleibinger, Synthomer, Testing Bluhm & Feuerherdt and Wacker (thanks a lot!). The MEDMA/SEADMA Technical Bulletin 12 will be published on this occasion.

Excursion: after the event, the delegates can join us for a visit to Sharjah Expo, where ICCX Middle East holds its annual (concrete) show.

drymix.info Club: Prof. Dr. Mufid Samarai has invited the delegates to a Gala Diner and Banquet which will take place at Sharjah Corniche (exact location tbd., but the views will be splendid I can already promise!) on Sunday, 26.11.17, ca. 19:00. For organization purposes, it is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY to pre-register for this Gala Dinner. Please do so when registering for our conference or by e-mail to info@drymix.info.

Admission to the Middle East Drymix Mortar Conference is 350 Euro, reduced admission for members of drymix.info, SEADMA or MEDMA is 270 Euro. Drymix mortar manufacturers pay only 150 Euro. In order to encourage mortar manufacturers coming from Europe, South-East or Eastern Asia, we are preparing special travel packages with our sponsors, please enquire with us.

4. Russian Mortar Days, Moscow, 30. January 2018

For the fifth time, the scientific conference Russian Mortar Days takes place in Moscow, Russia on 30. January 2018. The event is hosted by Russia's leading Technical Institute, the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MCU or MGSU), Technical Chairman is Prof. Dr. Andrey Pustovgar (head of the drymix mortar laboratory at MCU and also Vice Rector of MCU). The Russian Mortar Days are being organized in a cooperation of MCU with The Association of Russian Mortar Producers SPSSS, The Russian Gypsum Association and drymix.info, The International Community for Drymix Mortars. Quintet Company , St. Petersburg, Russia is organizing the event locally. Like the previous events at MCU, Russian Mortar Days 2018 will feature 12 scientific lectures and an Industry Showcase. Sponsoring is still available and welcome. The Call for Papers has recently ended, but submissions are welcome until 28. October 2017 (since Leo is in São Paulo anyway).

Admission per person is 350 Euro, reduced to 270 Euro for drymix.info members. Drymix mortar producers pay only 150 Euro per person. Delegate registration for international visitors is available on the drymix.info website, for payments in Roubles within Russia, it is better to register with Quintet at baltimix.ru. A suitable hotel nearby is Hotel Cosmos, from which there is also a shuttle bus to MCU in the morning of 30.1.18.

The Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2018 will be published in Chicago in April, submission deadline for articles and advertorials is 31. December 2017

6. Announcement: cedmmc six to Take Place in Istanbul, Turkey on 4. October 2018

This is a preliminary announcement for the Sixth Central and South European Drymix Mortar Conference cedmmc six in Istanbul, Turkey on 4. October 2018. We ask all our friends in Turkey to give us feedback concerning the date (the location will most likely be the same as last year). Based on a survey we undertook during cedmmc five we have two major changes:
a) the event will only start at 11:00 in order to avoid traffic jams for our delegates
b) the traditional Bosphorus Cruise (=drymix.info Club) will take place immediately after the event (and not the day before). The cruise is romantic, beautiful AND expensive, so we need sponsoring support for this!

7. Wacker Chemie Increases Prices for Dispersions and Redispersible Powders

Wacker Chemie AG, Munich, Germany has announced that is will increase the prices for dispersions (tradenames Vinnapas, Vinnol and Primis) by up to 10% and the prices for redispersible powders by up to 7% (tradenames Vinnapas, Vinnol and Etonis). Wacker cites cost increases, especially those of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), as reasons for this measure. The increase for dispersions becomes effective on 16.10.2017, the one for redispersible powders on 1.11.17, or as customer contracts allow.

8. Sika Opens New Plant in Pakistan

Sika AG of Baar, Switzerland, has recently started up its new production facility in Lahore, (Northern) Pakistan, right at the Indian border. The new installations include a plant for concrete admixtures as well as a drymix mortar mixing unit. The existing mortar production plant was relocated from Lahore to Karachi, Pakistan's main harbor city in the South. Sika expects the market for construction in Pakistan to be growing steadily in double digit percentages until 2020.

9. Sto Acquires 48,8% Stake in Jonas Farbenwerke

Sto SE & Co. KGaA, Stühlingen, has recently acquired a 48,8% stake in Jonas Farbenwerke GmbH & Co. KG, Wülfrath,both Germany. Sto is a major supplier for building paints and external Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS), Jonas Farbenwerke is a specialist for interior paints and renovation systems. The two companies plan to cooperate in developing their existing distribution channels to the professional segment as well as to wholesale and retail outlets. Jonas Farbenwerke employs 77 people, Sto and the Rouenhoff family will manage the business jointly, Axel Rouenhoff will continue to head Jonas Farbenwerke as CEO. The transaction is still subject to regulatory approval.

10. 2nd International PCE Conference: Proceedings Available through drymix.info

The 2nd International Conference on Polycarboxylate Superplasticizers (PCE 2017) took place at Technical University of Munich, Germany (TUM), Garching Campus on 27. and 28. September 2017. Over 200 delegates attended the 14 scientific lectures and viewed the 9 posters. The printed Conference Proceedings contain all submissions, the 280-page book is available in our drymix.info shop. The price for the publication is 39,00 Euro (incl. 7% VAT) plus packaging and shipping.
