1. Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2017: Contents and Subscription Options

Today, we have finalized our Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2017 (DMYB 2017) and sent it to the printers. By mutual request, we are starting a subscription system for this publication now, so drymix mortar experts get it immediately after release, even if they do not attend our 6th International Drymix Mortar Conference idmmc six on 3. April 2017 in Nürnberg. Here is our deal (and how it works):

Subscription offer: for the period from now until 7. April 2017, DMYB 2017 can be ordered for the sum of 20 Euro, including  7% German VAT and airmail to your destination worldwide. After 7. April 2017, the price incl. VAT goes up to 22 Euro plus the respective freights (up tp 8 Euro per book). Please notify us of your subscription by e-mail or through our shop (click on DMYB 2017 and follow the usual steps for purchase).

2. idmmc six in Nürnberg, 3. April 2017: Delegate welcome sponsored by Calucem and Evonik

For the sixth time, the International Drymix Mortar Conference idmmc six unites experts from the drymix mortar industry in Nürnberg. As usual, the event takes place just before European Coatings Show, the bi-annual and most important exhibition for our industry. It features a comprehensive Industry Showcase and the Drymix Mortar Yearbook 2017 will appear on this occasion (see above). Delegates can enjoy a casual welcome at Barfüsser im Mautkeller on Sunday evening, 02. April 2017 thanks to our sponsors Calucem and Evonik (thanks a lot!).

Admission (including 19% German VAT!) is 460 Euro, reduced to 380 Euro for SEADMA and drymix.info members. Mortar Producers are eligible to our specially reduced rate of only 280 Euro. Please use our online registration option on drymix.info (Visa or Mastercard required).

3. European Coatings Show and Congress, 4. to 6. April 2017 in Nürnberg

Eurpean Coatings Show (ECS) is the most important raw materials and technology show for the drymix mortar industry. Every two years, it is being held in Nürnberg, Germany, this year from 4. to 6. April 2017. The organizers, Vincentz network, also invite to an international congress (European Coatings Congress; on 3. and 4. April 2017). Prof. Dr. Andreas Gerdes (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and Ferdinand Leopolder (drymix.info) are the Technical Chairmen for the Construction Chemical Sessions, taking place on 4.4.17. A comprehensive Program was chosen from the submissions, we reported on the program earlier. Remark: during ECS hotels get quite expensive in the area in and around Nürnberg, sorry.

4. Imerys Makes Offer to Acquire Kerneos

Imerys SA has recently made an offer to Astorg (both Paris, France) to acquire Kerneos SA, Paris La Défense. According to Imerys, the transaction value of the offer (total enterprise value) would be 880 mio Euro, expected synergies are estimated to be 23 mio Euro per year from 2018 onwards. The transaction remains subject to internal and regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

5. Wacker Increases Capacity for Dispersions in Burghausen, Germany

Wacker Chemie AG, Munich, Germany, has announced that it will expand its capacity for dispersions at its main plant in Burghausen, Germany by 60.000 metric tons per year. According to Wacker, the overall investment is 25 mio Euro. This sum is including spending on infrastructure expansion, too. The new dispersion reactor is expected to come on-stream within 2017.

6. Core Team Formed for the Founding of Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturers Association

The South East Asia Drymix Mortar Association SEADMA had invited the drymix mortar manufacturers of Malaysia to a kick-off meeting for the formation of a local chapter on 13. February 2017 in Kuala Lumpur. Drymix mortar manufacturers Durabuilt, Gema Melodi, LafargeHolcim, Mapei, Master Materials, MC Bauchemie, Pye Products, Quicseal, Saint Gobain Weber and Sika joined the discussions. Key Industrial Minerals and Wacker also assisted as guests from the raw materials industry. The SEADMA EC was represented by Tim Tan, Lim Seh Wan, Terence Yong and Ferdinand Leopolder. Michael Thong of the Master Builders Association Malaysia MBAM gave valuable advice on how to legally establish an association in Malaysia and also offered cooperation in the education programs in the future. The assembly decided to undertake steps to form The Malaysia Drymix Mortar Manufacturer's Association as the SEADMA Malaysia Chapter immediately. For this purpose, a Core Team was appointed consisting of Si-Main Loo (LafargeHolcim), Steve Chow (Mapei) and Natasha Hue (E-Mix), the Core Team is being supported by Lim Seh Wan and Leo in its tasks. Target is to have a formal assembly with committed contributions by all quality manufacturers of drymix mortars in May 2017 already.

7. Synthomer to Build New Plant for Acrylic Dispersions in Germany

Synthomer plc, Harlow, United Kingdom, has announced that it will invest 20 mio Euro in its dispersion plant located in Worms, Germany. The company adds several new and fully automated reactors for acrylic dispersions to its existing plant. By end-2018, the addition of 30.000 t/a will be available. The plant in Worms is strategically well located in Western Europe, with a direct connection to the river Rhine, railway and of course roads. Synthomer operates dispersion plants in the United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Italy and Spain.

8. Litokol Acquires a Significant Share in Estima Keramika (Russia)

Italian tile adhesive manufacturer Litokol SpA, Rubiera, MO, Italy has recently acquired a 21% stake in Estima Keramika, one of the largest ceramic tile manufacturer in Russia (headquartered in Moscow). Estima's main plant is located in Noginsk, about 50 km East of Moscow. Since 2002, Litokol operates a drymix mortar plant right next to this Estima plant and partners with Estima by co-selling its tiling products in the many branches Estima operates throughout Russia.

Litokol, owned by Luciano Cottafavi, operates directly with commercial companies or production facilities in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and China. Estima Keramika (in production since 2001) has a turnover of more than 80 million euros and a production capacity of around 15 million sq.m/year or ceramic tiles. Estima employs 1.500 people at its two facilities in Noginsk and Samara.
