11. First Load Bearing Basement 3D Printed in Germany
A consortium of Rupp Gebäudedruck GmbH, Weißenhorn, Instatiq GmbH, Stuttgart, Heidelberg Materials, Remmers GmbH, Löningen, Inotec GmbH, Waldshut-Tiengen (all Germany) and Liebherr AG, Bulle, Switzerland, has recently succeeded in printing a basement of a single family home using 3D Construction Printing (3DCP) in Weißenhorn, Germany. On a conventional concrete slab, a 240 mm perimeter wall was printed using Instatiq's printing head, a modified Liebherr concrete pump and high-strength 3DCP material from Heidelberg Material's nearby plant. The printing head can process mixtures with aggregates up to 8 mm and runs at a speed of 10 cm/sec, the 3DCP assembly has an overall reach (diameter) of 26 m. For sub-grade protection, Remmers sealing slurries are being used, spray applied with an Inotec mortar mixer and pump. The new process saves the cost for reinforcement and formwork and, due to the fact that high-strength concrete is being used, perimeter walls can be designed thinner, which again saves materials.
