7. Isover Closes Mineral Wool Production in Bergisch Gladbach

Saint-Gobain Isover G+H AG, Düsseldorf, Germany has recently announced that it will stop production of mineral wool at their site at Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, this summer. Isover will concentrate its German mineral wool activities at its Speyer plant. According to Isover, the reasons for this restructuring measure is the decreasing demand in Germany, caused by the low residential construction, but also lower export volumes into neighboring countries. Isover is currently investigating the possibilities to distribute the 160 employees in Bergisch Gladbach to other units nearby to prevent lay-offs.

8. BASF, Sto and AGB Frankfurt/M Cooperate in Producing and Installing EPS Panel with Recycled Content

BASF SE, Ludwigshafen, Sto AG, Stühlingen and housing developer ABG Frankfurt Holding GmbH (all Germany) have collaborated in developing and installing a expanded polystyrene board (EPS) containing recycled material. The new EPS board is intended to give better sustainability to new building's outer (insulating) shells or in retrofitting existing ones. BASF introduced 10% of EPS from mechanically recycled EPS wastes into it, the new board meets all performance requirements of the „virgin“ board (BASF branded it as Neopor F 5 Mcycled). The new insulation board was installed on the façade of one of ABG's existing buildings with 52 residential units in Frankfurt, Main, as part of an energetic retrofit project. "The result allows us to look into the future with optimism, as our aim is to incorporate a significantly higher proportion of sustainable substitutes into our external thermal insulation composite systems," says Dr. Frank Börner, Regional Manager Rhine-Main in Project Management at Sto.
