Subject: Shrinkage Reducing Agents

Diols are widely used as SRA in several formulations. Nevertheless it is not well understood why and how they really work. Do they reduce the superficial energy or do they act as curing agents? What are the most important features: Superficial tension - Vapour pressure - or MW?

Hi Gabriele,
a study about SRA's and their effect on mortars was published in 2001: http://fire.nist.gov/bfrlpubs/build01/art029.html
It's a reprint of an article published in "Cement and Concrete Research" and has the promising subject "Shrinkage-Reducing Admixtures and Early Age Desiccation in Cement Pastes and Mortars".

thank you for your relpying,
I know this paper (one of my favoite) nevertheless real practical test showed that SRA having very high MW an low vapour pressure can perform even better the faster evaporating SRA.
